TC Monday Observations(with photos)

I know it's a little late, but I had to make it back to Raleigh. Anyway, here goes:

-Smitty's injury came in a one on one drill against Gamble. Smith ran a slant and got good body position and Gamble came hard to try to break up the pass. Smith was upset, slammed his helmet down but I didn't see any words exchanged.

-McCown worked with the second team early but Moore got more time with the twos as the morning practice wore on. Moore seemed to be with the second team for most of the night session.

-Jake looked good, Moore and McCown looked solid. There is a big gap back to Cantwell, as you would expect.

-Goodson has moves. He has moves all day.

-Shwartz seemed to be around the veteran o-line guys all day, particularly Gross, soaking up information.

-Gamble and Marshall looked good, big gap down the next guys - Wilson, Martin and Munnerlyn.

-Richardson looked thin, this was the first I'd seen him since surgery. The players seem to genuinly enjoy seeing him though.

Smith injury photos are attached. Additional photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/georgeb83/3812739420_d9f7b32022.jpg

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
