Huddlers with kids in middle school.

My middle age son is in 6th grade and wanted to know if this is protocol with other schools. He's only allowed to go to his locker one time during the day and also not allowed to carry a backpack during the day. They say that they could carry a weapon in the backpack so this is the reason behind that. Just seems a little overboard on the rule about backpacks.

I could only go to my locker before and after school. I can't remember if I carried a backpack because I only remember not having one. But this was 20 years ago.

There just wasn't time between classes.

I'm glad schools are being proactive about threats. I got a friend a that's an administrator of an elementary school in WSFCS after Sandy Hook he was ready to quit.

I finished 9th grade in 2008 I think and went to school in Spartanburg. Everyone could carry their bags whenever they wanted and you had about 5 minutes in between classes to go to your locker. So I'd call it pretty odd and extreme. 2 of my cousins are in middle school in Raleigh and they don't have that "rule" either.

The biggest bitching I here is that lunch sucks sooooo bad this year from all my kids and they blame Michelle Obama for it, The lunch program is now meant to be healthier my 1 kid said lunch was plain rice, nasty grilled cheese and 3 green beans and a milk. My kids love grilled cheese but said it was odd feeling in his mouth and he spit it out. My kids never complained until now. I have to pack a lunch cause they wont eat this poo.

IIRC, we had like two inter-class breaks that were 2 minutes longer to go to lockers. wow it's been over 20 years.

OP, some schools have strict policies. Not much you can do about it.

 

On my fifth day at a publi school in Jackson, MS in 10th grade a kid got stabbed and killed by another kid in a bathroom. It was nuts.

Your son is going to have bigger problems than that. Middle school are three years that everyone seemingly universally hates.
