Saw Something Cool Today (Sponsorship)

I was watching the Panthers game with my nieces today and we made a deal. If the Panthers win, we get some milkshakes. So when the Panthers went up big they were begging Coach Ron to run out the clock (I joke but they were counting seconds). So we go over to McDonalds and I'm surprised to see a Hornets logo on the cups with the words "Official Coffee of the Charlotte Hornets". It caught me off guard. I don't think I ever saw that kind of partnership under the old regime. My nieces got excited because I've bought them shirts with the logo and we started talking basketball in September.

I know the name change also was sponsored by Mercedes so hopefully the Hornets can start turning a profit with the corporate partners BJ blamed for his ineptitude.

I'm sure most of you already knew that McDonalds was a partner with the Hornets but I think it's a good sign. Now if we can only get Carrier Heat Pumps and Harris Teeter 3rd Quarter three point contests back!

The Hornets are a hot item in Charlotte now, so I can see plenty of corporate sponsors jumping on board.

I also think MJ's delay to pull the trigger on the name change was entirely marketing itself. He knew from day one that it was a smarter name to market with than the Bobcats. Just wanted to build up the hype and who can blame him?

Yeah recently went to a concert this past week at TWC arena and they have made it look cool as hell in there. Just awesome seeing all the new logos around the place.

Have they completed the in arena renovations yet? I went to the first open house and all they had done was on the exterior and the lobby. Everywhere else was still blue and orange and bobcats related.

I don't foresee them making the real renovations until next off season.  Money was approved to late to do anything of significance this year.

That saiid,  Hornets are having there training camp here in Asheville and I can't wait to go check out some practices.  Maybe I can do a little TC update when that comes around.

Is training camp at UNC-A again?

Renovation is the wrong word. I'm talking about rebranding the arena which they do pretty much every season. Is most of the stuff in there still Bobcats related or have they transitioned everything to the Hornets?

That I don't know, but I think it's pretty safe to assume you're not going to see Bobcat's logos in there at all by the time they play in there.  The court was the biggest thing.

Can't seem to find the exact days. Do you know what it runs through?

I know it starts in about two weeks.  I don't think they've released a set practice schedule yet.  Probably within the next week or so the schedule will be released...I'd imagine.  I just know it's there and we're two weeks away from it.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
