Us sucking D on Defense, is it the coaches or the talent?

Recommended Posts

I don't know how our defense fell apart this quickly, we were very solid last year and now we made the guy who won the get to be a Bengal for a day contest have an excellent game in place of AJ Green.

So who's to blame? The lack of talent and filling the defense with scrubs and rejects, or the coaches for not adapting?

With that said, bring Hardy's ass back after the Green Bay game, he'll have served his six games by then. (I know this won't happen because JR has to have his team take a hit in order to help goodell's incompetent ass with PR, but it would be nice)

Hardy's gone.  Frank Alexander is gone.  I think CJ is being limited by injuries.  Not sure what's going on with Star.  The secondary is a hot mess.  Kuechly, TD, and Short are really the only defensive players who are standing out.

We tried to mix some things up today and nothing really worked for long.  Cincy would simply counter our adjustments and keep on rolling.

Both. The lack of talent in the secondary and the young players on the D-line, and the coaches inability to adjust to what the offense is doing. Sean was sending some stupid blitzes throughout the game and kept calling that soft ass coverage, while our secondary was scared to hit anybody and running away from tackles. It doesn't look good at all. If Rivera can't field a good defense, then he is worthless.

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup. • That thread has all the huddle legends either posting in it or mentioned in it. I remember everyone of those folks and I truly miss seeing them post here. This place was so much better with them here.
