Your the GM, how do you fix this train wreck?

One question? Why would you put Ramsdell or Dorsey in as OC when they have never called a game in their life. You bring in a new guy and give him an offseason to develop and design an offense and get ready to assume the role. You don't put in a guy with no experience in the middle of the season. That is idiotic.

You're not going to be able to change the offensive scheme in the middle of the season. There's no time to install a new offense at this point. We're stuck with this offense. This allows someone with familiarity with the current offense to take over and have half a season to audition. The biggest issue with Shula's offense is his complete lack of having a feel for calling a game. I don't like the sceme, but we can have much better production out of this offense with better play calling.

I don't know anyone who likes restructuring besides the players if they get more money up front. Still it is a necessary evil until we can dig out of our current cap, issues. But restructures were not what got us into this. It was huge guaranteed contracts which we couldn't unload because of huge dead money cap hits if we did. Restructures are what we have to do to manage the cap while these contracts go away.

I agree the bad contracts started the problems but the restructures made the situation worse. Most of the time when you restructure a deal you increase the dead money associated with the contract. This decreases the teams ability to unload the contract in the future.

Brand new coaching staff, cleaning house and getting rid of as many bad contracts as I could. If I have to eat them so what, colture must be changed asap. Those that stay will be put on notice, nothing is giving everything is earned. Rebuild the oline.

Its probably already been said numerous times before in this or other threads,

But isnt it possible Gettleman or the organization as a whole possibly and purposely left glaring holes in the O-Line, or otherwise other areas for the express reason to force Cam into lesser position to negotiate extention after what they thought might be/hoped for, a less than stellar season for him?

Of course it's "possible."

-Finish out year for what it will be

-Fire Shula and Matsko immediately at season's end!

-I, not Ron, hire an OC of HC caliber that is capable of running multiple schemes

-I empower that OC

-I offer Hardy 3yr/45mil loaded with incentives

-I cut CJ and pursue JPP for double what he now makes and still save money

-Sign a couple FA DT's that can upgrade DT depth.

-Pursue higher a TE talent in FA

-Cut Dwill and Draft Gordon or Coleman in 2nd rd. A true every down back. JStew to spell

-Explore new RB coach potential

-Release Decoud

-Sign King Dunlap as insurance, but draft a franchise LT in Scherff or Cedric

-Sign a veteran road grading FA Guard

-Draft at least 2 more OL in 5th-7th

-3rd Rd is best WR or S

-4th Rd is best WR or S we didn't get in 3rd

-Sign a FA WR with some speed

The restructures are also the reason we could compete last year and bring in free agents and go 12-4.  Then this year Gettleman thought he could do it again and has failed. As long as you are restructuring guys you intend to keep it isn't always bad.  It is when a guy you think you want like Stewart gets restructured a few times and then stays injured so much you want to release him but can't that you end up with the dead money problems.

What better option do you propose?  Dump all your vets and be Jacksonville.  If you want to try and stay competitive you have to do what you can while you slough off the bad contracts.  It is easy say that restructures are bad and we shouldnt do it but in practice you don't have many other options.

    • My general take on the state of the team not going too in depth is this: Either Morgan or Canales (hard to say whether it’s the players or the system/coaching, and that goes for any team) has been responsible for considerable strides forward on D and a bit more productive offense, but it’s been a small sample size and we collapsed at the end of the year. I lean towards it being more Canales growing as a coach and building a culture of buy-in and getting the most out of players in the locker room. My reasoning for leaning there is that Morgan was part of the Fitterer stink and it’ll take him a while of sustained success in roster management to overcome that in my mind. Next year is a big year to see if that was a fluke or not. These big signings this offseason are exciting and sometimes teams can have amazing FA classes but more often than not those who spend big and “win the offseason” don’t show the results in the regular season.    As far as QB goes, in a vacuum I’m completely fine with the Pickett signing, he’s ok value for a backup and a huge improvement over Dalton. If Bryce went down there isn’t a huge drop off there and if the rest of the team builds on last year they could win games with him under center. I’m not sure the ‘85 Bears could win games with current Dalton under center. But the O is just so damn limited with Bryce and Pickett does not push him at all, he’s purely a backup. So I agree we I’d love to see a QB with some upside drafted, a guy who could actually push Bryce if/when he struggles or doesn’t improve any further. He’s improved steadily the last 2 years but it has been from arguably worst in league history to still below average. I’m not convinced he can get any better than purely average at absolute best. I hope he can man but I just don’t see it happening. And the longer we keep penciling him as starter the less confidence I have in this staff. Even with our unexpected relative success as a team last year sometimes you do have to take another step back to take a step forward, and that could mean moving on from Bryce, and temporarily going with a slightly worse player like Pickett while aggressively trying to upgrade the position and taking dart throws in the draft/free agency on upside players. I know, there wasn’t much available this offseason outside of Willis, and this draft class seems to be poor at QB. But I’d have preferred we try something and if it didn’t work and we took a step back then just keep trying until something hits. Rolling with Bryce is just delaying the inevitable and living in purgatory.    just my 2 cents, hope I’m proved wrong
    • His market value is 15.7 million. Not worth it to bring him at his age, at that price. If we were to bring in a veteran, DeAndre Hopkins is available for 2 million market value. I've said this in other threads, get Keenan Allen to play the slot. He's as good as a pass catching tight end and is market is under 7 million.
