I need a new TV

Vizio actually has the reputation for best bang for the buck and longest lifespan.

Biggest bang for your buck? No doubt about that. They're cheap, but that doesn't mean you're not paying for it elsewhere. But the picture on vizios is not as good as competitors, what you're getting is features, so it depends on what you consider your 'bang'.

They have a decent warranty and that may play into the lifespan. I've had two small ones completely die on me and my large vizio was repaired two times and finally replaced the third time. Luckily I got it at Costco and it was within a year so it was replaced. These tvs were brand new and used, bought from different sources, a few hours a week.

My Sonys and Samsungs....even a Phillips are still going strong, the Sony is the best of the bunch, not just tvs but monitors as well.

Well OP is looking for something in the 50" range and according to cnet, 3 of the top 8 tvs at that size are vizio while only one is sony

regardless, research individual models instead of brands. every brand puts out duds.

Disagree. I've had two vizios. Best tv I've ever had and would buy another. Sony likes to think it's a name brand tv, but I would much rather buy a Samsung than a Sony.
