So if R.R is retained and keeps Shula....it is possible

Shula ball works with decent O talent paired with good D.

Ron stays then Shula stays. Simple.

I agree with you that Shula ball demands we can run as well as throw the ball. On the other hand we have a decent passing attack now especially considering that we had rookies and third receivers outside of Olsen. I think with all the injuries and the porous o line that. Shula has done a better job than many give him credit.

On the other hand when I see a high flying offense like Philly led by Sanchez, I imagine what we could do with Newton if we ran an air raid offense or high octane spread. But in either case we can't do that without a very good offensive line that can run block. If Cam can get the ball out quickly with plenty of options , we won't have to have a line that needs to pass block for 4 or 5 seconds.

I just don't want to install another offense and have to take 2 years for the players to learn it. I want something that will enhance Newtons strengths and hide his weaknesses and produce right away. If you are going to replace someone I want an obvious upgrade. And before you say anything is better, ask Tampa fans that question.

    • when we drafted Bryce Young that team might have been more talented than the team we currently have ?  that was the whole reasoning behind morgagting  our immediate future to trade up to #1 overall for BY. our front offices & owners felt like hey guess what the time is now to srike while the iron is hot go hire an All Star coaching staff we were only a Qb away from taking that next step ..just saying
    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
