my playoff seeding solution

I agree a 7-9 team shouldn't be in the playoffs over a 11-5 team. but the rules are what they are and I'll take it. I love the way the divisions are set up, so wouldn't change anything there. I think teams get mad when they just don't have a Chance to take a Jab at the title after a year of hard work. in top of that fans have been saying for a while they want more games so, my solution..

add 2 wild card teams for a total of 4. each of your division winners gets a 1st round bye. and the wildcards play on wildcard weekend. that adds one game to the playoffs. just right in my opinion. then only play 3 preseason games and start a week earlier. . that pretty much covers every year ive looked at in which a good team got shut out of the playoffs.

Until (read never) the league goes to a round-robin regular season that leads to a cut down and then a round-robin playoff people will always be able to make a case that someone on the outside is more deserving than someone who made the cut.

 

I say leave it alone.

 

Every player and coach knows in August that the only sure fire way to punch a ticket to the postseason is to win them all.  And if they cant manage that they have to accept that there are sometimes going to be years that they "deserve it" but don't get included.
