Does anyone keep reptiles?

If you're gonna go snake, I'd go corn snake at first... They won't eat as much as a larger snake, and they are very mild tempered and easily handled.

Meh. Get what you want. You'll lose interest otherwise. Just do your research.

I went thru about 15-20 snakes as a teen. Biggest I got was a 12 and 15 foot albino Burmese pythons. Meanest was an African rock Python and a reticulated Python. Cooks tree boa was pretty grouchy too. Burmese pythons red tail boas are pretty tame but can get big but it depends on its habitat. Most common is a ball python but they are pretty boring.

I've seen an adult rosy boa locally. The owner is giving her up because of his health. He said she loves to be held and is very docile. I'm going to call his vet today

I'm being very cautious because I don't want to be irresponsible getting a pet. It's cruel to the animal

How large? Have them check for mites, I lost two snakes from them.

Good on ya for being cautious. Decide what you want and research the poo out of it, make sure you can care for it properly and meet all it's needs.

Lol. A snake isn't going to grow any smaller just because you have it in a stupidly small cage.

So you are stating a python in a 12 gallon aquarium will grow the same size as a snake in a 12 square foot cage? You don't think there is a correlation in growth for snakes in nature compared to captivity? Weird because the biggest snake recorded are found in nature with a huge living space.

of course a python in a 12 gallon isn't going to grow as much because it's fat as fug and can't move. It has nothing to do with the size of the cage, it has to do with the layers of fat surrounding it's organs and your poor care of it. But let it out every few days, take it outside and feed it the same, and it will grow the same in a little cage as a big one.

the idea that snakes will grow to fit their cage is untrue. There are other factors.

A lot of things are different in the wild, it's not as simple as the size of his habitat lol. A lot of captive snakes without big cages will grow a lot bigger than a lot of wild ones.

Still pretty small for a red tail. Have them check on the under side in the scales for mites, they are easy to get.

It's rosy boa not a red tail.

24" inches is a pretty average size for a rosy boa, males rarely exceed it.
