Carolina Huddle Magazine?

One of the reasons we're looking at this is the fact that the Panthers require a print publication (or being a TV station or radio station) to obtain credentials.

Since we're not going to have a TV Station or radio station any time soon, a print publication could be our inroads to obtaining and securing them.

I also think some things look better printed. I still like to read magazines.

Another reason is money. We've got an advertising deal with WCNC, and a magazine could be another way for us to create some revenue. More revenue means better resources (Video cameras, more sophisticated technology, paying contributors, etc) which ultimately results in a better experience for our visitors.

This is just one idea we're tossing around. Your feedback is greatly appreciated as we try to enhance the site and our community.

I like to read magazines too..but nobody likes the price..like everybody else has been saying most of what you could offer would be on the net for free.i like magazins but they just dont sell today.

I am and always have been 100% behind teh huddle, and Zod already knows I'm on board with helping in any way that I can. With that said, I understand the reason behind this idea, but I also know there are other publications already circulating that might not even have any content directly related to the Panthers. Has any consideration been put to contacting such a company? Printing may be cheap right now, but it ain't free. The last thing I want to see happen is 2-3 mags then belly up. Creative Loafing or the like? There are a few local editions that would be possibles...

Just brainstorming....

And how much longer will the content be free? We've already seen newspapers dwindle down to almost nothing. Sports departments were cut deeply. I know there are local papers that wont be covering the Panthers this year because of staff cuts.

Sure, there is free content, but ultimately someone is footing the bill. If those people can't continue to foot the bill, that content either disappears or you have to pay for it.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon ... and for the rest of your life.

Newspapers are greedy. They will find a way to make you pay. They are hurting badly right now, and online advertising revenue isn't even making a dent.

If we did have a huddle magazine, it'd be either free or low cost. One thing we definitely don't want to do is make it expensive and that be a deterrent.

We've floated an idea of a premium message board or chat, video (with advertising) and other niche ideas. Problem is, they all cost money to do right.

I know some of you guys would love to have a spread (pun intended) of a Huddle Kitten each month to pin up in your garage or fortress of solitude. Would that be worth, say $3.00 a month?

Sounds like a good idea.

In addition to your Panthers and Bobcats coverage, there are five cities in the Carolinas (Charlotte, Triangle, Greensboro, Wilmington, and Charleston) with national level soccer teams and Charleston aside, they're undercovered. I know it's a niche market, but it's an under-served one and traditionally it treats it's supporters with real loyalty. Just a suggestion, and I understand if it's not an option given lack of resources, but it's worth considering. I know there are some soccer fans that post here who may lend a hand.

Why print it? Why not add a premium feature to the site and charge for it and include the content you would put in the magazine. If you can't do that because of an agreement with sponsors of this site- link it to another seperate site and host it there. Printing seems a waste of money.

This.

Was going to suggest it if it hadn't been already.

Two more words. Locker Room.

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
