Except for Chris Gamble, there was no meltdown in coverage.

You're right that Gamble was mostly at fault, but Flacco was 23/28 for 247 yards, nearly all of it in the first half.

Nice mix of no DLine to speak of and Secondary meltdown.

A lot of those were screens too, but most of the downfield stuff was definitely on Gamble. Marshall is quietly doing a pretty good job this pre season. Either that, or Flacco just don't go left much.

They still need to learn to defend against the screen, I mean they only ran it 10 times, all but like one being successful.

That is something where having our 2 starting LB's will fix IMO. Beason and Davis are faster than Conner and Anderson.

I've never been a pollyanna, and I've never been a hater. I have always supported the team and defended the coaching staff. But I was at the game tonight, and finally seeing it in person really brought it home. This edition of the Panthers just isn't interested in playing defense like they have in years past. It's more or less the same package, but the coverage is GONE.

The Ravens didn't carve us up on the ground, taking advantage of Kemo and Beason being out. They used their 2008 28th ranked passing attack to pick us apart by going after our starters--namely Gamble and Harris. And they did it in the face of decent pressure. Our entire secondary looked tentative and out of place. If this effort represented game planning then we're in deep, deep trouble.

Last year we had the same personnel and did a MUCH better job on defense. We got killed on the ground late in the year, but we were always much better than what we showed tonight in coverage. You can blame the players, but the only thing that's changed is defensive coordinators. And honestly, based on what I've seen so far Trgovac is tons better than Meeks. If you hated Trgo, you're going to utterly despise Meeks. Our defense just doesn't play as well as it has.

Maybe this is just a big sand-bagging effort. But boy, does it have me worried.
