When people say its just preseason...

People who say its just preseason were the same people that said we were going to be aweseome when we blew out the redskins last year. Were they saying then that its just preseason? I doubt it! Its called denial.

No...they're serious when they say that it's only pre-season because they understand the Panthers have a magical button that they'll press come Philly game that will make them "start playing for real".

It isn't so much that as it is a tremendous lack of depth across the board. We have very few positions where our second string can compete.

What we do have are 5-10 players that are elite players. Smith, Peppers, Beason, Stewart, Williams, Gross, Wharton, Gamble, Otah, etc. that make our team much better when we start to lean on them heavily.

Fox is smart enough to not put our season in jeopardy by rushing Beason back into the lineup or giving Williams and Stewart 15-20 carries or Smith 10 catches in a meaningless preseason game.

Once the games start to count, there will be no shortage of those elite players being force fed the ball and playing time.

Depth, while important, is not the only aspect that makes a team a strong team.

EXACTLY

Is there cause for concern? I don't think so and here are a few of my reasons. 2 of the 4 teams we play are teams we play in the regular season. Though late, we still have them. Two The passing game is missing key players which means we are going to have to run the ball. Why run, our running game is one of the best in the league and our line is intact so why pound our running game in a meaningless preseason game.

The same goes for the Defense, we run a vanilla defense and don't show much. It isn't as if they marched down the field and scored every series. I don't believe during regular season we will show up that poorly. Coach Fox doesn't seem to be too concerned. WE Shouldn't.

If we go 0-2 or 1-3 in the regular season, well maybe we need to flip an urgency switch or two on.

Otherwise we have 14 days until Philly.

Go Panthers

I get a kick out of people saying it's just preseason.

I know the games/scores don't count. I know we've got quite a few starters out. I know we've been running vanilla offenses/defenses--although we did game plan some for this game.

that in no way excuses the horrible tackling, the offensive line not blocking very well, the utterly worthless defensive scheme we continue to run, and the general lack of heart. Make no mistake--I am very concerned about this team. Things don't magically fix in two weeks. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you've got problems in the preseason (problems that haven't gone way, by the way), you will experience the same problems during the reg season.

I'm looking at an 8-8 team. I have no reason to think otherwise.

I have no reason to think otherwise.

What about the fact that none of these players are playing with heart? What about the fact that we have a new defensive coordinator who isn't exactly trying to show everyone what his game plan with this team is? What about the fact that its fugging PRESEASON!

You can judge the play of our backups and the measure the improvement younger players have made but other then that preseason really isn't much indicator of anything.

We are a running team. When you try to be a running team without the use of your two best running backs then you're going to look totally lost on offense. If not for Goodson, our offense would have been totally anemic. Rosario Dawson made a nice grab or two, but other than that we were useless out there. Which is what anybody with knowledge of the Panthers would expect when you take Double Trouble out of the equation.

I am excited to see this season with Goodson, Stewart, and Williams. When we play to WIN games, those three will be on the field for no shortage of snaps.

Color me not concerned.

These run through games are just like scrimmages. We're not going to pound the rock with our important backs and use Smith without regard because even if we win it does nothing for us. Why show your hand this early?

I agree. Rep.

Actuly they did, they shank a field goal on the first series, scored 2 touchdown on the next 2 series and they basicaly had to punt right before the half, that was more of them trying 3 long bombs than anything we did on defense.

Just Saying

Hey, I hope you're right. I really do. I'll glady admit I was wrong.

    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
    • I'd think we could get one of those from Dallas for... whatever.
