Daryl Williams OT Oklahoma

from an article on Williams a year ago, before the 2014 season began:

“Daryl truly has been remarkable as he stepped forward in the winter, spring and summer,” Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. “He’s been one of the best leaders I’ve been around in 16 years. He’s always been a bright, great worker, great teammate, but now he’s taken ownership of being a leader.”

...

quarterback Trevor Knight said: “He was watching extra film every single day, on top of what we already had to do,” Knight said. “He was coming out early for practice, staying late for practice, really doing all the little things right. And it paid off for him.”

...

defensive tackle Chuka Ndulue said: “I believe in my soul that Daryl is the best right tackle in the nation,” Ndulue said. “Going against him in practice every day makes me better as a player, because if I can hold my own against him I can hold my own against anyone in the country.”

comments from fellow Huddlers:

ncfan:

"would rather see us go out and get a solid LT in the 1st. A Good #2 WR in this deep WR pool in the 2nd. Then get a Road Grading Mauler RT like Daryl Williams in the 3rd."

ncfan:

"3rd R: Daryl Williams- Looked good at LT vs Alabama last year but will be a RT in the NFL. Kid can open some holes in the run game and a solid pass blocker."

ncfan:

"3rd R - Daryl Williams: good pass blocker for a RT, had a GOOD showing at LT vs Alabama last year. Good run blocker. Future is RT in the NFL but can play LT if needed. Again better than any OT on our current roster."

AaronPhillips28:

"We aren't even guaranteed to take a T in the 1st. If Landon Collins fell, get him. That would leave us with a guy like Thompson or teammate Daryl Williams in the 2nd."

I believe oaklahoma makes great offensive linemen. I wouldn't be against drafting this guy. My dream would be to draft Either draft Jake fisher in the second and Williams in the 3rd or Williams in the 3rd and Havenstein in the 4th.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
