so do we slide TD to SAM or

Short answer, yes.

But depending on injuries and how quickly Shaq picks up the schemes, I think all three of them can be three down players. You could see Shaq line up all over the place from Safety to Buffalo Nickel.

My only concern is stuffing the run with three smallish Linebackers. But Star, KK, and CJ can help with that.

Thomas Davis is not moving to accomodate a rookie. Shaq has to get the rookie TD treatment..fill in at Sam, spell the Will and come in on exotic blitz pkgs. Take over TD's role in two seasons.

I don't agree with this because you don't configure a defense on seniority. You play to win. Right now Shaq is undersized for "Sam". He's listed at 225...

Think about what they have against spread offenses now in short yardage situations.

Kuechly, Davis, Thompson, and Tillman.

Now, who is the Mike? Who is the Will? Who is the Sam? Are they in a 4-3? Are they in a nickel? Are they in a Dime? Are they in a 46 and going to bring the house? Are they in man? Are they in zone? Who is going to follow cover the TE and reveal the coverage?

No pre-snap read for the QB. This is what the Seahawks and Patriots have mastered over the past few seasons with their personnel. The coaches no longer have to sub players for every package. They can now disguise the defense to perfection.

Now do you get it? No one knows who is in what position. Not even the QB or the Center. A step closer to winning in the playoffs, and this may be the advantage the Panthers need to beat the Packers and Seahawks. Remember you are playing checkers against the bad teams and chess against the playoff teams.

Last year, after we started using Glanton our defense was very fluid but in a good way where we could disguise a lot of packages.  Shaq makes that even more effective.  What I'll call our "faux-dime-package" will confuse the f outta offenses from here on out.  We can go now into what looks like coverage sets that can stop the run.
