I'm excited to see Shaq play but at this point I'm beyond making predictions for how any rookie will do.

I am a bit of a nervous Nellie when it comes to Shaq. Don't get me wrong I love the pick but I think there might be a short term learning curve in getting up to speed if there are some defensive twists being thrown at him which might require him to acclimate. I might be overstepping but I don't want to expect too much out of the gate day 1.

The other side of that is, if he is brought along gradually the defense may have a few new wrinkles when we get to to the meat of the schedule after the bye.

I hear ya, but if all he does is to shadow the qb or defend the short pass/TE, he's doing enough to free up Luke...and a free Luke to pass rush and attack the RB, then thats better than what we had last season...as he was very often our only shot at pass defense withon 15-yards of the LOS.

Our projected starting defense will be something like:

 

3rd rounder...1st rounder....2nd rounder...2nd rounder

 

1st rounder... 1st rounder...1st rounder

 

5th rounder... 5th rounder...

 

2nd rounder...4th rounder...

 

That group should give up on average no more than 17 points a game next year.
