I mean let's think about this. they had wun wun at the wall. They could have used him as the distraction instead of the benjen thing which was basically a troll. I have a feeling since winds is dropping before season 6 you'll find out what happens to Jon snow in the book. He will be taking the next season off to come back for season 7.
