Perspective, people

Seriously, a LOT of knee jerking going on based on a preseason game.

I get the frustrations and concerns. I have my own (mostly with Corey Brown and the run blocking). However, I think more than a few posters here need to remember something.

It's the preseason.

What IS the preseason? Well, for those who think every football game ever played in any way ever must be won, let me explain what preseason is for. It's for evaluation. How do you evaluate your players? Well, you put them in situations and call specific plays.

But wait, Lightsout. Isn't that exactly what you do in any game?

Why yes, poster. The thing is, it doesn't matter right now. The reason being is that right now, it's about repping certain plays live that they MIGHT use in those situations in the regular season. It's about running it live, full contact, on camera so it can be reviewed and broken down.

All in all, the preseason is for screwing up. You don't learn by trying to prepare each week in the preseason the way you would in the regular season and go out there bent on winning the game at all costs like you would in the regular season. You learn by going out there, running plays, and analyzing the problem areas.

I hate Shula as much, if not more, than most of you. But take some of the play  calling right now with a grain of salt. It doesn't matter what we run right now. Right now, we should be focused on the little things. Technique, consistency, form, etc. Complaining about losing a preseason game that we had won? Whatever. Doesn't matter. Complaining about Corey Brown turning into Colbert 2.0? Yeah, that's an issue. OL having trouble getting push in our inside runs? Yeah, problem.

So sit back and keep your feelings in check for a few more weeks when the simunition rounds are stored and live rounds are fired. We lose against Jacksonville in week 1, I'll be right there with you screaming my eyes out. Right now, don't put much stock in results on the scoreboard and don't think that the playcalling and general management of the game is going to be indicative of the regular season (though, still be terrified that Mike Shula is the OC for the Carolina Panthers).

TL;DR Like, chill dudes. It's preseason.

I'm not inside the locker room and I have no idea what's going on in Corey Brown's head. But I'm trying to be as positive as I can. Something is obviously mentally screwing with him. Just maybe this guy is afraid of what he thinks he can become. As we've seen tonight, a Philly Brown with hands could be a pretty damn good WR. That's why I don't think we should jump the gun and send him to the gallows.

He always seemed to have issues with body catching but not like this. He's been spotlighted with KB out. The pressure to perform and the opportunity at hand could be mind fugging him right now.

Of course everything I just said could be wrong and he sucks. But ya know it's the huddle.

I get exactly what you are saying. I'm actually more encouraged after the loss last night than I was after the 2 wins.  Overall, the ones looked a lot better on both sides of the ball (with the exception of drops.)  I'm not saying we are going to be great this season, but I actually do feel better after last night's game.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
