Clifford on Al: "We Would've Played Him More if We Would've Been Ahead."

Lol...   When this dude is supposed to be the centerpiece of your franchise (MKG notwithstanding because he isn't ever healthy) and you can't play him because you're down 10 or so points, why is he even here?

In the offseason I was really hoping we would trade him because no matter how we TRY to play, he will force us to slow down and will almost always defensively give back what he gets on offense.  And for our coach to actually say that was why he wasn't playing???   And this is just game 1, lol...   Good times ahead!

Both share some extent of the blame but this offseason helped me firmly drop a majority of the blame on the front office.

Again, you're asking Cliff to go out there with pieces that don't fit what he wants to do and try to make lemonade with rotten lemons. On top of that, he appears to be under a playoffs or bust mandate and he's got to do it without MKG and a roster that had most folks skeptical at best and openly mocking the franchise at worst.

I think there are better coaches out there for what the Hornets really need at this particular time (player development. Hi, Scott Brooks!) but I can't help but feel bad for the guy. I appreciate his honesty throughout his time here.

Jordan missed out on drafting his Cam when Winslow fell to him.

No. It was when Silver pulled the Bobcats logo out of that envelope and Rich Cho looked like his entire net worth had been instantly wiped out.

Winslow was the BPA, not a generational takent. Big difference.

On that note, I can't wait for 82 game threads that devolve into "Hey guys, did you know we didn't draft Winslow?"

I think a more apt comparison would be he missed out on drafting his Deangelo Williams lol.

I think Winslow will be a good, sometimes great pro, but Cam is someone who revolutionizes a game.

Is it just me or did we take a crazy amount of long 2 pt shots last night? The offense looked abysmal except for that little spurt in the 4th.

Aside from Clifford's stupid rotations, that was my biggest gripe...  The shot selection was abysmal, and it would be one thing if it was one or two guys, but with our team, it always seems contagious lol.

I was ribbing you guys, but it's not far from the truth. Winslow, if he continues to develop, is not only a stud and a franchise's future but (hopefully) a star.

Winslow did come into the NBA raw as hell too.

Who knows with Winslow. When we've actually played Frank, he's shown plenty of potential. But Clifford gonna Clifford.

Anthony Davis. The Bobcats had arguably the worst season of any NBA team ever that season, and couldn't get the 1st pick.

It is just perplexing that we do not trade draft picks to obtain a Chris Paul or James Harden bc they are soo precious...

...then we get a huge offer from Boston to get draft picks that will give the franchise flexibility the next 3 drafts to get better quickly...we pass...bc we have a guy who is "SO PRO READY!!" ....and we are not playing him extended minutes over a Marvin Williams.

That is a team without a focus, principaled approach we have come to respect from the Panthers. Hey..at least we got the Teal back in Charlotte.

It's not arguable, worst winning percentage ever by a decent clip. It'll never be beaten either, it was a lockout season and it would take 8 or less wins in an 82 game season to beat that. Our franchise will have that amazing distinction forever.

That Brooklyn pick for this year will probably be top 3 and we'll all be depressed. Such is life with this franchise.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
