Holly Holm just knocked out Rousey

Yeah I don't know how Ronda's training was but obviously they underestimated HOlm's stand up game...not sure why they would do that.  Ronda just walked into most of those punches and when she got up that last time she was nowhere near in a defensive posture.

Her striking coach Edmund is an absolute idiot who has never coached a single successful fighter before Rousey. I mean just look at him between rounds, he literally told Ronda she was doing great and to keep it up. He should have said 'you just got your ass kicked, arm bar her in 10 seconds this round."

Yeah when he said that to her I was wondering what fight he was watching.  But honestly it looked like Ronda was just unprepared for this fight and there was nothing she could do.  You saw how she kept going after Holm just walking into those punches.  You don't walk straight into someone that can knock you out, that's just stupid.

And there's the kick that did it.  This is the first time I've seen Holm fight, read plenty about her before the match and have seen interviews with people talking about her boxing ability.  Haven't read a lot about her kickboxing ability but that was a perfectly timed kick right to the chin that knocked her out.

I'm wondering if this was some kind of fluke though.  I mean if Rousey was a little more patient and not running her face into all those punches would Holm be able to hold her off on the ground?  They went to the ground 2 times I think (once with Holm taking Ronda down) but Holm did the smart thing and got back up.  So if you've seen more of this Holm chick fight, what do you think about her chances in a rematch were Ronda actually prepared properly.

The rest of Holms' fights in the UFC have been very boring and she squeaked out decisions in them. Because she's a counter puncher, and the rest of her opponents were smart enough to not just flat footed bullrush at her with their hands down and chins up like Frankenstein monsters. It really can't be overstated how bad Rousey's boxing is.

That's a much better angle.  Look at how perfect that kick was and how Ronda was totally in no position to defend herself from it.  She may have been a little bit stunned before that kick though.

We'll get to see just how competitive Rousey is now.  She's going to have to change up her training which might mean getting rid of who trains her now.  I really didn't expect her to look so bad.  She didn't land a single meaningful punch or kick.  She wasn't able to close the distance at all without getting pummeled.

Man I wish I had put money on that. Spectacular fight from Holm. Everybody knew Ronda had abysmal stand-up but her dumbass coach convinced her otherwise instead of going for the arm bar.

Rousey's mom even said the same this past month. Said Edmund was a hack and the only reason anyone had heard of him was because he got lucky by training Ronda.

I'm guessing they'll be some management /coaching changes very soon.

If Ronda actually thought she could stand and box with a world champion boxer ,she's definitely been brain washed or she's just that dumb. I think like what happens to a lot of fighters she bought into her own hype. Stupid ass Dana white saying crap like they'd like to see her and  Mayweather. I'm sure she's questioning what the hell she was doing standing this morning.

    • The NFL eats giant bad contracts all the time. I looked and the 3rd starts at 6.7 at pick 67 and 6.1 at pick 96. With the way the NFL cap keeps going up and how they all work the cap it really shouldn't be an issue for any team that can get 1 year out of rookies.  Maybe it would cut down on teams taking giant leaps on guys they shouldn't? This would have got Hurney fired in 3 years lol
    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
