If Steve cared half as much about himself as you guys care about him, or felt the same way about the team or Jake as you guys think he should feel about the team or Jake, I think we would have heard something. He may not have signed a contract extension (btw, he's on his 3rd contract as a Carolina Panther) or he may have demanded a trade.

I have never heard of any of those things, and neither have you. Because he cares about the team, he cares about Jake, and he cares about the coaches. That's why you see him taking out defensive lineman blocking for the running backs, even if the running backs might not be able to take out a defensive lineman to block for the quarterback.

If Steve Smith wanted out, he could get out. I'm sure the Raiders would be willing to put together a package the Panthers couldn't refuse..even for a guy like Smith.

I was more concerned with his body language on the sidelines. From second quarter on he was completely out of the game in his mindset. He was on the far side of the bench. Talked poo with the defense (boy what I would give to here that conversation) davis, peppers. Had a small melt down in the third after another Int where Kasay grabbed him took him to the bench where he sat with kickers and jansen for sometime.

Smith allowed delbongs play to get his mind out of the game way to quickly.

Steve is a jerk. Always has been. Always will be. When Jake was on the cover of SI a few years back (the preseason issue that said "It's Carolina"), they asked him how it felt to have the Panthers on the preseason cover. He said "I wasn't on the cover. Maybe you should ask the guy who was."

pitiful franchise

Shut up and grow up. If you hate the franchise so much, what the HELL are you doing supporting them. Hang on, you AREN'T supporting them, you are slating them and everyone invovled with it. Is there anything about the Panthers that you actually do like and support? Other than Smith?

Grow a pair and take bad results on the chin.

Regards to the OP, I think it's telling. The team can only take so much before they begin to lose faith. More significant was that Fox pulled him, but did not pull him from the Arizona game. I think fox is aware that the team is on that edge of losing faith, unfortunately I think he will still play Delhomme for the majority of the season.

We could have a LOT of disgruntled players at the end of this season if the FO do not play their cards right. TD played his heart out, 14 tkls, 2 assists. Is he not a free agent this season? Why would he bother even talking about re-signing unless he knows the offense is going to be looked at.

    • This is where I'm at. Dowdle is a feel good story and glad he's proving his doubters wrong. I just don't see how we keep our OL intact (which is the right move) and spend on another RB after giving Chuba his money. Though the odds are against him, I do think Brooks can still be our RB2 next year..and if he stays healthy, our longterm RB1. Having the full offseason with no pressure to try and come back like last year will help. I'm also happy to see he and TD have been connecting.  If this team is smart, they go into next year with Chuba/Brooks/ETN and sign a Dowdle-light version in FA at minimum cost. Chuba is in his prime and a full offseason to fully recharge will only benefit him more. Dowdle is unfortunately a luxury item I don't think we can spend our money on. We still have other areas of need that we have to improve on the defensive side of the ball.
    • last time they loaded the box, shut down the run and forced BY9 to beat them, we saw the result of that. So what can we do this time to beat them? I suspect it's going to require a lot of short / intermediate passes with TE play to help
    • Floyd Mayweather Jr. made hundreds of millions off realizing this. He was an exciting boxer in his early days but watching his dad and uncle struggle with the effects of taking thousands of punches to the head he realized he was skilled enough to good guys without putting himself at risk and he'd just wait for other elite guys to lose a step before facing them. The whole WWE-esque "Money" persona was built around the realization that it doesn't matter if they're watching to see you win or watching hoping you'll lose, all that matters is that they're watching. Force them to love you or hate you, just make sure they care enough to tune in. We had a similar situation with Cam. Everyone felt some kinda way about Cam. You couldn't find many NFL fans who were neutral on Cam Newton. Is was love or hate but either way it was must see TV.
