The headliner at USC pro day did not disappoint.

Su'a Cravens weighed in at 220 pounds and ran an official 40 time of 4.61, though several teams clocked him at 4.55 an 4.54. He did both linebacker and defensive back drills and as told to me he looked "Fantastic; he caught everything but a cold."

I'm told while Cravens can get his weight up to 240 if necessary, but teams like him where he's currently. And as of late, most teams have him graded as a safety; not outside linebacker. Over the past two days, Cravens has met with the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers. And as expressed to me "there is scary interest from the Carolina Panthers" in Cravens.

Numbers on linebacker Anthony Sarao include a vertical jump of 35.5 inches, broad of 9-8, 22 reps on the bench and a 40 in the 4.6s.

Interesting that we seem to love Craven. Not sure why why would draft another LB where Cravens is projected.. So that probably;y means we like him as a SS and not OLB as the article is suggesting. Very interesting.

6'1 220 lbs and a 4.5 - 4.6 40 time. His strength is playing the run and has great instincts and closing speed. Not bad plying the pass either.

He might just be our 2nd round pick. Might even be a trade up or take him in the 1st if we REALLY like him and not edge guys are around.

I'm so happy most teams are telling him they see him as a safety. I've been on the Cravens bandwagon to replace Harper for the longest. If we could steal him in the second.  Whew

Miles Killebrew, Southern Utah 6'2 216 SS

(Awesome name; I'd chug a beer anytime he gets a pick 6)

The Carolina Panthers are expected to visit and/or workout Southern Utah safety Miles Killebrew according to Luke Easterling of Bucs Blitz.

The safety position is one that the Panthers have shown a great deal of interest in as they have met or are expected to meet with two other safeties, Su'a Cravens and Jayron Kearse, prior to the NFL Draft.

Killebrew was highly productive during his time at the college level with over 100 tackles each of the past two seasons and was named to the second-team All-Big Sky in 2014 and first-team All-Big Sky last year. The hard-hitting safety had a strong performance at the NFL Combine and finished as a Top Performer in the Bench Press, Vertical Jump and Broad Jump.

The one thing that is clear is that the Panthers are looking for a big safety and Killebrew, 6'2" and 216 pounds, is similar to the other safeties the team has taken a closer look at. USC Trojans' Cravens is 6'2" and 224 pounds and Clemson's Kearse is 6'4" and 216 pounds.

Scout ranks Killebrew as the sixth best safety in the upcoming NFL Draft and is a player the Panthers may target in the middle rounds.

We are definitely targeting a SS. Fully expect us to draft one.

I'm really liking what I've read about Killebrew.  He reminds me of that Jaquiski Tartt from last year now on the 49ers.  One of the few bright spots from that team last season.

Read this on him:

Quote

Killebrew is a different animal. Tackling is obviously his forte, but he plays with a physicality that lends itself to operating in the box[...]

There will undoubtedly be a big adjustment with the jump in competition level, but Killebrew could be a significant contributor on special teams immediately as he's groomed for a larger defensive role in the coming years.

Quotable: "Violent player who looks to punish and intimidate with the force of his strikes, but who won't compromise his form as a tackler just for the highlight reel hit. Killebrew is average in coverage, but has the size and physicality that makes him stand out in the box. With the success of Arizona's Deone Bucannon as a hybrid linebacker, it is reasonable to assume that a team will look to Killebrew to fill that role for its defense. If he blows up the combine, he won't get past the second day of the draft." -- Lance Zierlein, NFL.com

"If you draft me, you're going to get somebody who is loud and likes to hit. Not only am I not afraid of contact, but I embrace it and run through it." -- Killebrew.

That sounds like a guy I can see Ron and MCD wanting on this defense.

I like what I'm reading on Killebrew.

Forgive me if I missed something, but what round is he projected for?  I don't recall seeing him near the top of the board any time we pick in the mocks I've done, but maybe I wasn't really looking for him.  Will keep my eyes open now in future mocks.

    • Exactly, I mean it as no offense to his coaches, but they coach at Holy Cross and not a Power 5 school for a reason. Given his success at that level and his solid testing, I'm surprised he went undrafted, seems like the type that could excel once he gets NFL level coaching. One of higher expectations I've had for an UDFA in a long time.
