One of the best WR analysts I've found over the past few years in Matt Harmon.  He puts an insane amount of work into analyzing and charting draft prospects each year and provides great insight into how players perform under various scenarios and where they win.  He's also a Panthers fan and he now writes for the NFL Network.

He published his analysis of the 2016 draft class a few days ago (linked below).  Based upon his analysis, I would be 100% comfortable with taking Shepard in the first round.  This guy looks like the real deal.

"Sterling Shepard simply broke the system with an 82.8 percent success rate against man coverage, and 91.1 percent against press. Question his size, or a future as “just” a slot receiver, but that is a rare ability to get open. Over a full Reception Perception sample, Shepard posted SRVC numbers akin to that of some of the best wide receivers in the NFL. His advanced and nuanced route-running combined with tangible athletic gifts should make him a lock for a top-three ranking at his position."

this quote right here.  We should pull a Funchess type trade and move up in the 2nd and grab his kid.

I've been in love with him as a player and and person since I heard his story a little while back (deseased father went to OU). I would love to see him and black and blue. I think one of the reasons we lost against Denver is we had no quick passing game, everything was a 5 step drop throwing down the field, and out tackles couldn't hold up to that. Sheppard is the ideal slot wr, quick, elusive in space, EXCELLENT hands, and picks up yards after the catch. I'll offer a more in depth breakdown once I finish all his games but I would be thrilled if we could get him.

    • It's crazy with how much winning was going on when we had a little cool off period that we're still just a couple games out of 6th. Moussa is getting better every week and Coby is getting comfortable. Would be nice to get to 6 but I think this team is a lot more stacked than the last couple play ins. I can't remember the exact rules but if you're 7th seed and win the first game I think you automatically move on and don't have to play the second game?
    • I think it was a thing for sure. Panthers weren’t too many people’s first choice. Or 5th choice.  2022 and 2023… coaches fired mid season. Consecutive years. You want any of that?  He has definitely overseen a rehab of how the Panthers are perceived. Because we are a place that is seen as up and coming. And just the little thing of he accommodated Theilen so graciously, that gets noticed. It all adds up. Dan is doing a lot of things right, probably most things.  Needs a good draft.
    • K, I think that is dumb, but you do you. I didn't find anything online that made him out to be a dislikable person. I am certain the Panthers would have cared so much if they lost your fandom if they hired Sean Payton. But bet you would have come crawling back if Sean lead us to a Super Bowl victory or Golden leads UNC to a champion ship. It is easy to say you are gonna leave a team if the hire someone you dislike when the chips are down. But people like you tend to come crawling back once the team finds success.
