Final Fantasy XV + feature length movie and anime series tie-in

Don't know if any of you have kept up with this game.  It was announced 10 fuging years ago and its release date has become a bit of a running joke over the years... but they've finally given it a release date along with quite a bit more with a huge press conference that Square held last night.  It's coming out September 30th this year.

Before the games release there's going to be a full feature length state of the art CG film with A list voice casting (Ned Stark actor Sean Bean, Joffrey's mom, and Jesse from Breaking Bad) along with a free-to-watch anime series, an actual real life version of the car from the game partnering with Audi, a standalone unique free demo which was just released, and free app tie-ins that connect with the main game

Here's the game trailer (pretty damn awesome trailer IMO)

Square seems to be pretty fuging confident in this one.  I can't ever remember a game company going all out like this for the release of a game... and the newest trailer above is fan-fuging-tastic.  Looks like between all this and the announced FF7 remake they're really trying to make up for the disappointment of FF13.

Here's the CG movie trailer... which might be free also unless I misunderstood them from the press conference:

Just crazy for a game that was announced so long ago (again... 10 fuging years ago) with such little information revealed over the years to suddenly drop all this at once.  Square apparently has a poo ton of confidence in this one, because they've got an absolute ton of money invested in it.

I'm very curious about this game, I've been a long time FF fan, but seriously the last great one to come out was FFX.

Yeah, I feel the same way.  I couldn't get into XII when it came out and XIII damn near soured me on the series altogether.  Only reason I'm hyped about this one was even back when it was first announced (at the same time as XIII 10 years ago) it still looked like the far superior game... then it just never came out.  I think after the disappointment of XIII they really step backed and began to reevaluate what they were doing and are putting that into this game... they've even been on record saying they sort of fuged up along the way and lost their focus after X and that they hope to bring FF back to its roots with this one.

So I'm gonna give em a fair shot with this one.  It might not be perfect, but as long as it has that old Final Fantasy sense of adventure, depth and scope to it then the series will be alright in my eyes.  They seem to be going all in here.  If they fug this one up I think they know the series is screwed, outside of the FFVII remake.

FFXIII could have been a great game. It had a lot of great potential, but it felt like you were playing on a rail shooter with how limited your options were while playing it. if the game was more open ended, and had some decent mini-games/challenges to it it could have been great.

And yeah, they also need to make this game great, otherwise it will be just remakes from here.

I liked XII.. I thought the open world gameplay was fun and different. I just downloaded the platinum demo on ps4 for XV so I'm about to check that out. I really hope this game delivers.. XIII's linear gameplay just pissed me off

They did a really shitty job explaining that the platinum demo is only a glorified tech demo... it's really not representative of what the actual game is going to be like nor does it have anything to do with the game.  Mainly just there to show off varied environments, lighting, weather effects, physics, etc.  The only part that's similar is the final at the very end (which you can do over again by pressing a button past the exit)

They also don't really do a good job of explaining the combat mechanics, kinda have to figure them out on your own.  But it's just supposed to be a small glimpse, so whatever I guess.

You serious? Well now I don't even want to play it...

It's worth it just to fight the boss at the end I guess though they kinda throw you in head first and don't really tell you poo lol

Like it'll probably take you a minute to be fighting smooth like it's supposed to be like this (you can fight him as much as you like)

and it's pretty short... but the beginning part is kind of a weird choice for a demo considering it's supposed to sell people on the game and all they give you is a glorified tech demo that doesn't really show much outside of weather, day/night, driving mechanics, etc. and they don't even tell you that

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
