Practice Squad Change

The previous 2-player limit was part of a 2-year experiment, so I wasn't sure if there would be any exceptions this year as that provision had expired. Instead, they've doubled it.

Could be an interesting development relating to the receiver battle. Hill and Bersin each spent time on the practice squad these last two years as a result of this exception. Of the 14 receivers on the roster, only Ginn and Hill don't qualify for the practice squad under this provision.

I still don't see how Berse can be PS eligible after all this time, but I am sure you understand the convoluted rules more than me. I guess that "accrued seasons" means 16 total games or something.

Six games to equal an accrued season, and players qualify for the exception if they have no more than two accrued seasons. While we're going on year 5 with Bersin in camp, the first two years he didn't make the team. So only two accrued seasons.

Isn't there a limit of 2 years that a player can be on the practice squad? Bersin's first 2 years here were practice squad, so I don't think he can do practice squad a 3rd year

Players are eligible for a third year if their team "never has less than 53 players on the active roster."

Either way, Bersin was just cut his first year and then played in the CFL or something. Only one full practice squad season.

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
