Joe Haden: A Fan's Midseason Wetdream

It seems the people that think people know Haden by his name and not his play have bought into a narrative put forth by people who feel the need to rationalize why this team never makes significant moves to bolster the talent on the field. For instance, there's certainly not an intelligent poster here who wouldn't want one of PFFs highest rated CBs on the year and his multiple Pro Bowl pedigree.

I have seen nothing about Haden being a top rated Corner on the season. Where have you seen this?

it would be a great way for Gettleman to show contrition for his dumb@$$ moves this offseason and half @$$ed attempt to cover them up.

That being said, there is more to this than playing Madden GM and signing the guy. We would have to give up something that would likely piss off fans and, admittedly I haven't looked, i'd imagine he doesn't have a small contract.

After the trade with the Browns eating the guaranteed money, Haden (27) is 10m per season through 2019. That is what Gettleman wanted to pay an older Josh Norman.

Haden could also be cut at any time without any dead money. The biggest loss would be the draft pick(s).

The Panthers gave up a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th round pick for Bradberry, Worley, and Sanchez. The Panthers trade away picks every season to just have 5 picks for the draft. The Panthers will likely be getting a 3rd round comp pick for Norman. With the logic the Panthers have already employed, the Haden pick makes sense for a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick at most. The Panthers gave up a 4th round pick for a $4m 34 year old punter. The CB should be more valuable to the team.

The issue is Gettleman likes to see his draft picks on the field. Gettleman would rather have Bradberry and Worley for the next 3 seasons struggling, then Norman and Haden manning both CB positions.

The Panthers could of had Josh Norman and Joe Haden under contract through 2019. Joe Thomas at LT. Michael Oher at RT. Sheldon RIchardson and Kyle Love in the DT rotation. Hunter Henry at TE.  Emmanuel Ogbah at DE. Eric Weddle at S.  A 4th and 5th round pick in 2016.

They would have to give up Vernon Butler, James Bradberry, Mike Remmers, Oher's contract extension, Paul Soliai, Graham Gano, Andy Lee, Ed Dickson, Zack Sanchez and Michael Griffin. Also, they would likely give up a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick.

WIth those trade offs the Panthers would still be $7m under the cap.

The front office continues to be very short sighted on leveraging value with the CBA, negotiations, salary cap, and draft picks.

Josh Norman, Joe Haden, Kurt Coleman, and Eric Weddle in the secondary. Solved.

Sheldon Richardson and Emmanuel Ogbah inserted into the DL rotation. Solved.

Joe Thomas at LT with Michael Oher/Daryl Williams at RT. Solved.

3rd down receiver threat solved with Hunter Henry and Olsen on the field for 3rd downs.

I am willing to take the approach of the Broncos, Steelers, and Cardinals at punter and kicker if it means solving problems on offense and defense.

The answers are always out there, and they are not always on the roster.

Grades were posted a couple weeks ago prior to his injury. He was the 4th or 5th rated CB on the season I believe at that point.

You'd have to be stupid not to want a talent like that here, but many will trot out the "games arent won with proven veterans but with crafty, cheap players #gettle" argument because he isn't here.
