If Fox was fired, would he resurface as a DC or HC?

Yep. I know Eric Mangini was fired as the head coach for the Jets last December & now he is coaching the Browns. I could see that happend with Fox once he isn't coaching the Panthers anymore.

That was a horrendous decision that will make it even harder for fired head coaches to bounce back quickly. When Fox is out of work for an extended time come January 2010, he'll have Mangini to thank for that.

I could see him getting the Redskins job if Zorn is let go (very possible).

Shanahan is probably waiting to become the next Cowboys coach. Schottenheimer's already had the Dan Snyder experience, and I think Cowher already told Snyder no once before.

There has already been a lot of scuttlebutt about the Redskins going after either Shanahan or Holmgren. Both are better coaches than Fox is and have had more success than he has.

Shanahan minus John Elway was useless. Lots of rumor that his next shot will be coaching Tony Romo.

And if you mean Holmgren in Green Bay (with Brett Favre at QB and Ron Wolf in the front office) sure. Holmgren in his more recent stint with the Seahawks? Not so much.

Mmhmm. Tell me, how many Super Bowls has Shanahan won in his career? How about Holmgren? How many years of consistent playoff berths and wins do they have between them? Now compare that to what Fox has.

No question that both are better coaches than Fox is. I mean, there's a reason why the Redskins are looking to the two of them after all.

Given the Redskins lack of success at picking head coaches, I am not sure them looking at a HC is the best measure of potential. The only good head coach that Snyder has hired was Joe Gibbs.

Of course, Shanahan and Holmgren are good coaches, but Mr. Scott is right, having a Farve or a Elway certain helps.

Fox is one of the most successful coaches of the last 6 or 7 years. Three playoffs and a Superbowl appearance. If we let him go, he will be hired as a head coach within a year, if he wants the job.

Nope. There are only a handful of coaches in danger of being fired: Fox, Del Rio, Kubiak, and Zorn. There are too many legendary coaches already available out there as well as great coordinators for Fox to get back into it next year.

he would get another HC job right away. he would go to his new team and have success within a season or two by taking them back to fundamentals. most people here will say 'look what we let go, he's winning elsewhere.'

then in 5 years all of the problems on the team that he has refused to acknowledged will build up, the players will stop believing in him and realize all he knows is fundamentals, and they will be extremely inconsistent.

repeat process.

Joe Gibbs won three Super Bowls with the Redskins in his first run. His last stint? Not so good.

Look at Shanahan's post Elway record and see how many Super Bowls you find (or even playoff wins for that matter). Likewise, Holmgren outside of the Packers system as run by Ron Wolf with Brett Favre at QB.
