The guy ranked No. 5 all-time in the NFL in sacks has a chance to cash in by racking up more of them this season in his return to the Carolina Panthers.

Julius Peppers’ one-year deal with the Panthers is worth $3.5 million, with sacks incentives that could push it to $4.25 million, according to a league source.

Peppers, who signed his contract Saturday, will collect an additional $250,000 if he finishes with seven sacks. The bonus increases to $500,000 for nine sacks, and Peppers will receive $750,000 if he reaches eleven sacks.

From PFF:

3. Julius Peppers, Edge

Peppers has become a situational player as the years have advanced, but that has enabled him to stay relatively fresh and productive, and as a situational rusher in Green Bay’s rotation last year he was excellent. Peppers posted 37 total pressures over the season and ranked 23rd among all edge rushers with a PFF pass-rush grade of 78.8, ahead of players like Cliff Avril and the NFL’s sack leader, Vic Beasley. Peppers still has plenty of gas left in the tank, and with a thinning group of quality pass-rushers available in free agency a team could turn its attention to Peppers as more of a short-term stopgap at the position while it targets the future through the draft.

Panthers sign DE Julius Peppers (1 year, $3.5 million): A- Grade
I generally like 1-year "prove it" deals, but they aren't always perfect. Sometimes, a player signed doesn't stand a chance of proving anything. On other occasions, the money would be better spent being rolled over to the following year. This acquisition, however, doesn't fall under either category.

I like this move quite a bit. The Panthers had to obtain a defensive end, as they were planning on trading Kony Ealy. Julius Peppers should serve as a quality temporary solution across from Charles Johnson. Peppers is 37, but he performed well last year, racking up 7.5 sacks. Even if he regresses a bit more, he'll still be a positive contributor for Carolina.

Peppers is a nice addition for a Panther squad looking to bounce back and win now. He won't have an adjustment period moving back to Carolina either. I'm giving this an A-, and it's not an "A" only because Peppers could decline rapidly at his age. Still though, there's no risk, so the Panthers deserve a great grade.

    • Winning games and be a +500 team are good. But the goal is to win Super Bowl.  Chiefs had Alex Smith, went to playoff twice and still replaced him.   BY as of now: - To many fumbles - Completion in the intermediate range is just far below acceptable - Not enough of a deep throw threat....   The stats you try use is deceiving.  Catchable......  That is an opinion. Show me the completion %. And also, how does BY compare to other QBs using the stats you cited. Oh... ranked at 27

    • The Entitlement Paradox: When Winning Isn't Enough for Panther fans.    Just the other season(s) we were praying for wins by any means. Brought in every run of the mill QB you could think of.  We know all sides of the ball was bad like egregious bad. However some how we have won 5 games and TOXIC ENTITLEMENT has emerged.    We are a team that has to take wins by anymeans nothing has changed. Keep pounding means it aint gonna be perfect!!    Some panther fans have now developed a toxic entitlement where even victories feel insufficient, demanding flawless performance, or perfection, which stems from historical success in which we dont have any lol. This mindset poisons communities by fostering relentless criticism, harassment, and ingratitude that undermine team morale and alienate casual supporters. For the new Carolina Panthers, this could manifest as fans booing Bryce Young after gritty wins for low passing yards despite low turnovers, pressuring tepper into premature changes mid-rebuild, or driving away talent through online abuse!! eroding the positive momentum from their recent 4-game streak has brought us. Trust and believe the players do see your toxicity.    Anyways here are some positive stats.      Most Accurate QB on... 20+ Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (79.2%) 2. Sam Darnold (79.2%) 3. Bryce Young (75.0%) 10-19 Yard Throws 1. Jaxson Dart (88.0%) 2. Jayden Daniels (82.9%) 3. Drake Maye (80.7%) 0-9 Yard Throws 1. Drake Maye (92.9%) 2. Spencer Rattler (92.6%) 3.
