Are you comfortable with the roster?

2 years ago.  I do think he is an improvement, but I do also worry about his age.  We need to draft a SS in the first 2 days to learn from him.

we are both wrong. 2014, 2015 season..

I saw 2016 probowl and forgot it was in January from the previous 2015 season.

that said, I still think he can come in here and produce with what I think is a much improved defense as opposed to the colts.

we were 15-1 and the #1 offense that year with JAGs for our WR corps.

Johnson can come in and be our #3

Expecting us to make it to another Super Bowl with a WR unit like that is basically borderline fantasy. Especially considering it was the weakness of that unit paired with an overmatched offensive line that lost us that Super Bowl. We won many razor thin close games in 2015 by sheer luck, you cannot simply expect to catch lightning in a bottle like that twice. Sure it's possible, but roster wise we must do everything we can to control what we can.

Panthers fans have witnessed this team piss away two Super Bowls, yet still arrogantly keep trying to jam that square peg in a round hole never learning from past mistakes of this franchise.

I would think at some point self awareness would kick in.

Shame.

I could be wrong but I think people are vastly under estimating Benjamin and Funchess.

I can write out my explanation later in getting eyeballed by the bossman.

I'm sure right before the season began in 2015 people said the exact same thing about the WR corps and us winning games saying its a fantasy. Well it happened. And we are largly the same team as far as scheme and coaching offensivly. If we can get into a rythm and grove and get our chemistry on par we are a damn good offense. This team is very reliant on vibe and aroma and by the looks of it it seems to be comming back this season.

again I think Funchess and Benjamin are underated and will exceed expectations especially Funchess. add in the draft, and my gut tells me we will be back in the ring throwing punches for the SB

I'd feel a lot better about Shepard or Johnson as our #3 if we weren't assuming that Funchess is our #2.

If we go into the season with our top 4 WRs being KB, Funchess, Shepard, and Johnson then that's not good at all. Those four veteran WRs combined for under 1900 yards last season. That's basically one legit WR (KB) and three bottom of the roster type guys.

Everyone is ignoring the one guy on our current roster that will lose us multiple games by himself in 2017 if he is still with us:

Gano.

He fugging sucks in must-make situations and we need to upgrade. So no, I'm not happy with this roster. WR and OL depth also need to be addressed.

I'm going on a limb and predicting Funchess breaks put in year three. Last year was too toxic and too many things pitted against him for him to do anything. The offense and team as a whole was straight stink and just off.

that said the good news is we still have the rest of FA and several high picks in the draft and June 1st cuts. Opportunities to get better. This FA period has been much better than any season in the past and we have been successful these season

I'm hoping we finally bust down the door and infiltrate the superior walls of good teams in the NFL and stay put instead of ramming our big ass log against the door. We have been ramming and recoiling past few seasons getting closer and closer each time. I'm hoping 2017 is the year we take that momentum through the door and were here to stay for the next decade till Cam retires

I think we could count on one hand the number of people here that thought the 2015 Panthers team was going deep in the playoffs when Kelvin got hurt. I damn sure can't say the same for 2016, can you? I don't think anyone expected us to win only 6 games.

Yeah 2015 happened, and 2016 also happened when we arrogantly stood by thinking we could sustain what we had without making any meaningful additions while other franchises improved and built on what they already had.

I'm not all that worried about Kelvin or Devin.

I get it. You're hopeful for this WR core, I am too my friend. But we must learn from our past mistakes. And simple expecting 4th string receivers we picked up from the bottom of other teams rosters to play out of their minds and uplift our offense into a juggernaut again is misguided.

I hope you're right about Funchess. I just don't have high hopes after he was getting such rave reviews last offseason, looked good in preseason, then the real games started and - poof - he just disappeared. A lot of people (including Ricky Proehl) legitimately thought he was going to push KB for the #1 spot. Not sure it's ever going to come together for him, but it'd sure be awesome if it did.

average score of wins: 33(33.35) - 19(19.24), Margin: 14

* - 7 games that were in question. There were no games in those 7 that we won by sheer luck. Every single one of them, the Panthers earned the win, usually through a disciplined and gutsy last minute drive.

i hear your concerns about the close games, and i think our "luck" caught up with us in 2016. but my point is that alot of that could have been counteracted with disciplined play from team leaders/coaches, and overall heart and determination. 2016 could have been alot different IMO.

    • I had started typing my post hours ago and didn’t finish it and just came back to finish it, posted it, then saw yours and saw we were pretty much saying the same thing - even the games that stick out to us most.  I don’t think a lot of people remember that SF playoff game, but I felt like I had just got mugged in broad daylight.  I remember them calling Mitchell for unnecessary roughness, and then I remember watching Boldin take a super late cheap shot, dead in front of the ref and then showing him watching the whole thing in replay…  the refs let them have a fuging field day and didn’t do jack poo, but if we so much as breathed the wrong way it was fuging 15 yards.  Each team playing under two completely different sets of rules.  poo hurt.  I was enraged.  I’ve never went back to watch either that game or SB50 and never will.  fuging robbery.
    • I’ve said it a million times since, but it’s impossible to keep them from affecting the game.  In SB50, they literally took the game from us, and they did it early.  Cotchery’s no-catch?  The miraculous amount of times we converted for a first down only to have it suddenly called back make it a 3rd down and 15+ against the best defense in the league that specialized in rushing the passer and man coverage on the back end?  And you do that enough times, you kill the morale and confidence of the team you’re doing it against.  It’s telling the one team “you can do whatever with impunity” and the other “you can’t do whatever they’re allowed to do.”  It changes the aggression level.  It essentially neuters one team and allows the other to do whatever the fug they want.  Imagine you call the police for help and they get there and tell you to sit still while the other party beats the poo out of you and you can’t defend yourself.  That’s what the officials do.  There is no way to avoid them affecting the game.  And more often than not, it’s the most subjective calls they use to do so.  Even in SB50…  you saw the Broncos commit more egregious penalties than anything we did, and barely any of it was called.  Their OL was holding all fuging game and the refs did nothing.  We already had our work cut out for us against two future HOF edge rushers and the refs played to their advantage with that.  From what I remember, both Oher and Remmers were called for holding at various times and their hands were in the INSIDE of the defender.  It was garbage, but all by design. Also, if there is any video of it anywhere, go look at what the refs did against us back in 2013 against SF.  The fix was in there too.  They stepped in early and often and ensured we knew we were not allowed to play with the same aggression or intensity SF was.  It was disgusting as well. at this point, I hope Vince McMahon, errr, I mean Goodell just finally scripts us to win it, because this poo is not won via competition or off merit.
    • You can go back to the New York Knicks somehow getting Patrick Ewing.  I saw a story where they place the New York Knick card in the freezer right before the drawing.  It was simple.  Show everyone the cards are undetectable to the human eye.  All they had to do was grab the coldest card. IMO ever since Goodell took over the NFL it has been fishy.  Patriots winning the SB after 9/11, New Orleans after Katrina and Peyton Manning's going away gift against us. The terrible calls during that game were blatantly one sided.  New England should have been stripped of their first 3 SB when they were caught spying on the other team in their SB wins.  I think the evidence against the Patriots was so damning Goodell felt it could ruin football and they brushed it under the table.   In the 2004 SB, How did we go from practically no yards in the first Quarter to setting a record in the 3rd Qtr.  Dan Henning changes the game plan.  IMO probably the greatest half time adjustment of all time.
