WOW... Tyler Thigpen to Dolphins

Wow... A guy that showed promise last year with a horrible receiving corps, traded to the Dolphins for an undisclosed draft pick. A guy we could've actually developed that had talent... Unbelievable.

Why would we need another young QB that might have some promise on this team? Maybe you haven't heard - we signed AJ FEELY. :leaving::eek:

So a desperate team trades a draft pick for a QB who is not even a starter and people are mad because the Panthers didn't make that move? Hell, he probably won't start for the Dolphins anytime soon either...he's just a veteran back up right now, just like A.J Feeley is for us.

There's no way Thigpen could be considered a veteran in any sense of the word. He's in his third season and we all saw flashes of brilliance from him when we played KC last year. Given that Pep is dead weight at this point, don't you think we could've traded him to KC (a team with no pass rush whatsoever) for Thigpen and a first rounder (sure to be top 5)? Cutting Moore wouldn't really be an issue cap-wise.

Well he's a "veteran" in the loosest sense of the word. He's only in his third year, has shown a lot of promise, is mobile, and could have a nice future ahead of him. Doesn't hurt that he's from the Carolinas.

AJ on the other hand is 32 and been in the league 9 years.

So 3 years is not a veteran? Anyway, Matt Moore has shown just as many "flashes" as thigpen has and he's in his third year in the Panthers offense.

You're all acting as if Thigpen is a proven superstar when he really hasn't proven anything yet. If he had, do you really think that the Chiefs would have been so willing to let him go for what is probably a 5th round or lower pick?

Thigpen entered the 2008 Kansas City Chiefs season as the third-string quarterback, but emerged as the starting quarterback following season-ending injuries to Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard. The Chiefs subsequently altered their offensive gameplan to a spread offense to help Thigpen and the rest of the young Chiefs team to play to the best of their abilities. However, Thigpen scored a remarkable 22 touchdowns (18 passing, three rushing and one receiving) against 12 interceptions in just 11 starts.

I guess the complaining is that Miami needed a QB and got a guy that might have some potential upside compared to us signing Freely that has almost none.

OK, so he had some decent numbers in a bunch of losing efforts during one season, while playing from behind most of the time. Hell, Delhomme lit up the stat sheet in 04 by throwing it around the yard and trying to come from behind too. That proves nothing.

No, he hasn't. Everybody went crazy over Moore in 07 because we thought we were stuck with Mittens and Grandpa Vinny. Seeing a rookie step in and go 2-1 was great, but he really didn't have much to do with those wins. Thigpen had absolutely nothing around him and kept his team in a lot of games. If the Chiefs didn't think highly of him, my trade would make more sense.

      Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.

      Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
