Offensive Matchups

With the additions of McCaffrey and Samuels I am very curious on the best offensive lineups we could have to create mismatches. Before the offseason started, most of us wanted a 2 TE formation to utilize the success Cam had with Shockey and Olsen. Now, I have a feeling we are going to run things that are slightly different. My desire would be the following:

Cam QB,  2 RB (Stew & CMC), 1 TE (Olsen), 2 WR (KB & Samuels).

Now with these players most teams would probably be in nickel defense bc a 4-3 or 3-4 defense would create way too many mismatches for the defense. The pick shows a team in a 4-3 but imagine Olsen out wide left, KB wide right and Samuels in the slot going against a LB or S. That is unfair especially because we could essentially motion CMC out to the other side for a 4 WR look and create even more matchup problems. Now we could still run the ball effectively as well with this personnel which could really create problems with a read option to Cam or just running with Stew if we are going against a nickel or dime defense.

Any other formations you guys would like to see? I am so excited about the potential of this offense if we utilize it to the fullest.

Jet sweeps with Cam, McCaffrey, and Samuel.

Shotgun formations with McCaffrey and Smauel

Heck, just anything with anyone would throw off defenses and create huge mismatches.

How to guarantee the defense goes to base 4-3, 3-4.

WR: KB & Samuels

TE: Olsen

RB: CMC

FB: Armah

From this we could actually go to a 2 TE set, utilizing Armah as 2nd TE or he could be the lone back pass blocking. We could have both CMC motion out of the backfield to create a 4 WR look with KB, Olsen, Samuels & McCaffrey. Imagine both Samuels/CMC lined up against linebackers!!

    • I have considered free agency.  LT?  Either not good enough or too expensive.  Besides, this is a good OT draft.  (I would rather have a free agent, mind you, but the Panthers' reality suggests we can't do it without neglecting other positions).  What LTs are available in free agency, and what do you expect to pay?  Any Ickey-level OT is going to cost over $20m.   How much do we already have invested in our OL?  I get your point, but I do not think you can spend over $100m per on your OL. We have 2 guards and a center who pull in about $75m per season.  We don't have a center yet.  Teams just don't let good LTs hit free agency, and when one does on rare occasion, he is expensive.  If you want a third of the Panther cap going to 5 Offensive Linemen, free agency is the way to go.  We still need S, ILB, Edge, WR, etc. I think we'd need more than Nijman--and I would understand if we went free agent for a T--but that is putting a TON of your cap at OL--so considering our situation, I do not see that option as preferable.  You may disagree. If I was not talking LT on our line and thinking about the cap, I would agree 100%.
    • Will be interesting to see how they come out tonight. The Boston game seemed to open the flood gates of media attention. And it’s not just that they’re playing well, in some instances they are getting compared with all time greats. This is still a young team, and it would be easy for an immature team to lose some focus, buy into their own hype, and think they can coast bit. The Heat are a middle of the road team without their leading scorer. There is no big dragon to slay, no big statement to make. I think we’ll learn a lot tonight: are they young but mature, or do they still have a ways to go mentally?
    • Panthers North for the win. Good luck to him. Great guy, hated to see him leave here, but he's about to work with the best QB he's ever worked with (at least on a regular basis).
