Some Clarification About Players on Injured Reserve

Apologies all.  I appear to have been spreading misinformation recently.  I had believed that guys sent to IR without first being kept on the final 53 would still be eligible to be brought back as the two eligible "designated to return" players this season.

After lots of asking for clarification on Twitter, there have been two pretty clear replies by ESPN's Field Yates, and Panthers' Bill Voth which state clearly that those guys sent to IR today are NOT eligible to be brought back:

So sorry for causing confusion on this topic.  At least I was not alone.  I saw plenty of folks (even Ian Rappaport) tweeting conflicting info about this today.

It's good to have what appears to be settled confirmation of the status.  Sad for all the guys who landed on IR today.

This also explains why they flat out cut Zach instead of IRing him. In case they could PS or keep him in case of injury.

In a LATER tweet to me, Voth implied that more IR moves may be coming.  I wonder about Corn Elder, Kyle Love or even Vernon Butler perhaps, injured guys we're still carrying on the 53 but would very much hope to have later in the season if possible...???

    • Sure seems like folks might have gotten ahead of themselves raving about this amazing QB class.
    • AT was around 7 million of space, that's still awful low for what's on the field. Do they have any more talent than, dbrwon, horn, hunt and maybe lewis or Motown??.....I hate to include motown cause of age.    Besides what can 14.5 (that you need to roll over next year) can buy in FA? Nothing at best.    Ultra poor mange skill, the weakest in the NFL with that amount given to one of the least talented teams.
    • If you bump that long BB trade thread, I said "if you turn down two 1st even future ones and other picks, you 100% have to sign him long term". *But now the burns camp has more Leverage in contract talks, still you have to pony up. BB whatever people think(I didn't have a good opinion) was very young and talented. The team needing young talent the most is the Panthers. Getting that 2nd and turning it into a RB that's going to miss 32 out of 34 games, just shoot both hands while you are at Danny boy......Again the panther lack young talent and they took a high valued stock and sat on it until it tanked and then used the remains to another loser stock chips....... Wow that's how to suck 101.....
