Talk about a lack of respect--NFL Power Rankings, week one

Seems pretty accurate given what we know/ based on last year. On paper we didn't do anything too sexy(aside from adding CMC). We did, however, inject this lineup with some very solid vets and some pretty smart value signings IMO. Last time we did that we had a hell of a run. The pressure of repeating a super bowl run should be off and we can catch some teams off guard.........Personally I can't wait for that week 6 or 7 article when this team has gelled and the media has to eat their words and admit this team is closer to the contender Panthers than the pretender Panthers

And our brain trust let him play in week 17 last year.  Smh

That was monumentally, unforgiveably stupid.

Cam has stated that since the Docs told him his injury would not get worse, and his team mates were out there playing hurt. There was no way he was not going to be out there with them.

But hey, let's not let a little thing like the facts get in the way of your outrage.

Then why have a coach?  If the ragtag group from San Fran with a new staff beats us, Cam should take over himself.

They saved Jared Allen from himself in the NFCCG in what could have been his last ever game.

Letting the backbone of a franchise worth billions in a league worth many billions play in week 17 in a game we actually wanted to lose is, in a clinical, medical sense, brain dead.

Lol. That is quite the statement.

Yeah, how dare our leader go to battle with his mates. Cam did not think it was right for his mates to play hurt, and him sit it out because he was hurt. Sounds like a true leader to me.

"A game we actually wanted to lose." Only fans think like this. NFL players want to win. Cam wanted to get the win for his mates. Again, that sounds like a true leader to me.

It isn't the player's call to play or not to play. The team should've shut him down. We weren't playing for anything at that point and all of the focus should've been on getting him ready for this season. Like I said, monumentally and unforgiveably stupid decision.

Tons of retired players have admitted that in hindsight they played in many games they probably shouldn't have, including probably the toughest son of a bitch to ever do it - Brett Favre.

Common sense 101.

Where oh where can one learn it these days?

Rivera has said that the Docs were certain that Cam could not injure himself further, and that Cam was adamant that he wanted to play for his mates. There was no stopping him.

Some folks think it was stupid. Others, and I, see it as Cam being a true leader.

#4 sums it up perfectly right here:

On Dec. 20, 2010, in Week 15 of an already lost season, Favre’s 5–8 Vikings hosted the Bears at TCF Bank Stadium, their temporary home after snow collapsed part of the Metrodome’s roof. “I shouldn’t have been playing,” Favre says. “I had a hurt collarbone. Typical me: Nothing to gain, but I wanted to play.”

“No one’s invincible,” Favre says. “Things do catch up with you. There is a price to be paid."

Two totally different injuries. With Farve's being far more serious. Apples to oranges my friend.

It's not just fans.  Teams, like the Colts, Bucs, Jets this year, and others, put their players in no win situations-for good reasons.

Greg Olsen knew it-and is good/smart enough to fall down knowing no one would suspect the obvious.

At a minimum, a snake draft/reverse order in rounds 2, 4, and 6 should be implemented to deter tanking at least somewhat.

CMC would not be a Panther if we won that game.  Unspeakable stupidity to play Cam in that game.

Yeah, a collarbone doesn't have anywhere near the long term implications as a rotator cuff. Not even close. Whether we're talking football or the average Joe, it doesn't matter.

NFL players are competitive guys. They are not going to lay down on purpose. It is pretty disingenuous to say so.

Speculating on what would have happened if we won a game to make a point. You cannot lose using that tactic.

"Unspeakable stupidity." I am sorry, but that one made me giggle.

Nothing too sexy except CMC?  Since Cam and Luke were injured, we arguably added 3 Hall of Famers (along with Pep obviously).

Not going to argue the CMC thing. We very well may have still gotten him. Who knows?

But, my point is that the team/medical staff has the ability to pull the plug on a player. It isn't the player's call. There was ZERO reason for Cam to be in that game. None. Nada. Zilch. Zero potential upside. Even if further injury wasn't a risk, there was no benefit. All the time he spent prepping for that game and playing in that game could've been spent resting/rehabbing. Maybe if that rest/rehab cycle would've started a week earlier they would've realized his injury required surgery that much sooner and he could be that much further ahead in his recover. Maybe he could've had more participation in camp and preseason and developed more chemistry with his new OL and receivers. Ifs, buts, and maybes, but the common theme is that there was zero potential benefit to play Cameron Jerrell Newton in that football game.
