To echo the previous sentiment, we NEED 2 points tonight.

The Canes are going with a different lineup tonight: in: Necas, Jooris, Carrick, and Ward; out: Kuokkanen, McGinn, Dahlbeck, and Darling.

Line Up

Teravainen - Staal - Williams

Skinner - Rask - Ryan

Aho - Necas - Lindholm

Nordstrom - Kruger - Jooris

Slavin - Pesce

Faulk - Hanifin

Fleury - Carrick

Ward Darling

Scratches: Kuokkanen, McGinn, Dahlbeck

Injuries: Van Riemsdyk (concussion, IR) & Stempniak (upper body, IR)

Van Riemsdyk is making progress and has joined the team in Edmonton.

The Canes get a big win on the road with a 5-3 win over Edmonton. Jaccob Slavin was phenomenal tonight and completely shut down McDavid.

Canes win 6-3. 

I think people forget what a long season the NHL has. We're going to be fine. We looked good. We're going to have down nights, but as long as we have fewer of those than in years past, we'll be in a position to compete for a playoff spot. I mean, we just beat a team that is currently 2nd in the Eastern Conference. In Toronto, no less. 

We're middle of the road in both PP and PK%, but we're top 10 in shots per game and shots allowed per game, winning right at 50% of our faceoffs. We're not scoring a LOT of goals, but we're not giving up a lot either. So, defense is limiting shots, goalies are limiting goals on those shots that do get off, and we're putting enough goals in the net to get points in the standings more than half the time. 

We'll improve as the season moves along (hopefully). We're fine until we're not. Still early, we'll know better closer to Christmas.

Nah, just need to ensure points in each of the next few. Mid November is our must-have streak.

Stars, Islanders, Sabres, Islanders, Rangers. Those 10 points against those 4 teams sets us up nicely in a position to drop a point here or there between now and then.

Welp. We play an actual perennial playoff team and our perennial weakness shows up. This team cannot score goals against good defenses and/or goaltenders. Faulk or Hanifin (or Jake Bean, our 1st, ++) needs to be moved for a 30 goal scorer ASAP. Preferably James Neal, then Max Pacioretty, or Matt Duchene in that order. Our forwards' finishing ability is complete trash.

They've played pretty well. Hanifin is 7th on the team in points. The first goal was on Darling if anything. Hanifin couldn't have done much different than he did. I didn't catch the second goal.

      Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.

      I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
