Another possibility is that this thing could stretch into a very long term proposition.  As mentioned,  there are a limited number of buyers with the jack to pull it off.  That number is cut further by the personal shenanigans of some of them and how that would affect sale approval by the NFL.  The NFL has a very vested interest in a sale happening,  but at the same time they want JR and the other owners to do well monetarily - they realize that if they come down or threaten to come down hard on the team for any JR malfeasance it could adversely effect the sale of the team.  And the NFL can not force JR to sell to someone he doesn't want to.  JR  knew all this when he announced the sale of the team.   He isn't getting any younger or healthier from what I can see from here.  He may just hold onto this team until his death.  I know that isn't a popular opinion but it is probably as realistic as any other scenario.

Actually they can force him to sell the team, same way they forced DeBartolo to give up his stake in the 49ers.

So no, Richardson choosing to hang on to the team isn't a realistic option.

Reread what I wrote - I said they can not force him to sell to someone he doesn't want to.  Your reading comprehension is very selective these days.

And your knowledge of NFL bylaws is pretty much non-existent.

Richardson can't get out of selling the team by using the excuse that he doesn't like any of the buyers.

He will be forced to sell the team. That's inevitable.

Not if their investigation doesn't find him guilty of anything.  And I bet he can draw it out for a very long time if he wants to. I doubt there is anything in the bylaws which dictate a time table for the sale of a multi billion dollar investment.  Show me the bylaw which says otherwise.

This is a franchise not a private business. It therefore adheres to different rules as a normal business. Billions or not it can be revoked if it threatens the franchise.

Correct. And the NFL has full control.

Jerry Richardson keeping this team is not an option.

Lol...if found not guilty of anything it certainly is an option...unless the NFL invokes the "no take backs" rule...

This isn't a court of law. There's no judge. There's no jury. There's no "beyond reasonable doubt" standard that has to be met. All the NFL has to do is believe something happened, and SI already gathered enough evidence themselves to show that.

He's done.

It's been speculated that Richardson might try to get 3 billion for the team. Yeah, anything is possible, but I really don't see that happening.

The price will not be cheap: CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reported the franchise will probably not hit the $2.5 billion mark when it's sold, but that the Panthers should fetch more than $2 billion on the open market.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
