Another potential owner: David Tepper

Don't see where people are getting he is frugal?  Everything he did investing wise doesn't suggest that.  From what I have read he finds distressed companies and bonds and invest heavily in them.

To me he is a value investor that looks for deals and isn't afraid to get on them big time if he thinks they are worth it.

The big thing I worry about is he might think he can just buy a championship which never works.  But being a minority owner of the Steelers might have shown that doesn't work.

Agreed. I  hear this a lot and i think people are referring to the salary cap. People need to distance the owner from the GM at some point. Also there is a cap minimum these days so we won’t have an owner spending 65m while another spends 135.  This isn’t the nba. Frugal means he is profiting in the stadium and tickets and merchandise but not team production.

One of the things I get from reading about Tepper is that there's a difference between who he is and who he wants people to think he is.

When it comes to actually doing business though, he strikes me as the type to do whatever it takes to get the job done.

You don't get to be worth over eleven billion dollars without being willing to give it a hundred and ten percent.

honestly... this guy rubs me the wrong way. especially with that asshole waiter comment. he sounds like the type of owner where at any moment you’re one disagreement away from being fired by him. i don’t want another owner with an ego. we’ve already had one for the last 20 something years and i’m looking forward to the day that he is no longer in charge.

Granted. In the circles these guys run in though, finding a guy without an inflated ego would be pretty tough.

My first choice at this point would still be Navarro, but my gut tells me Tepper is going to get it.

Ego is inevitable. Even though the waiter comment was prickish his family and his conservative home and office counter balance that. I don’t want all ego but we had an “all class” owner and that didn’t turn out to be the case. The only thing we should care about is how he runs the business not how how he runs his mouth. We won’t have our cake and eat it too with out huge luck.

If he wants it he'll get it. Being a minority owner is the easiest way to buy a NFL down the road. You've already been vetted and throughly checked and you're already "in the house" so to speak.

He's the guy that brought Jimmy Haslam stake in the Steelers before Haslam purchased the Browns. See how this works, so honestly unless another minority owner gets involved he should be the frontrunner

And then that stake goes to the next guy up.

Boy, the Steelers seem to have that philosophy in every part of their organization, huh?

Pretty much and it seems like guys who are minority owners with them are just waiting till the next team becomes available lol.

Like for example with franchise tag the Steelers know they won't sign Bell long term.  He's their second best player but they know they can't sacrifice the future cap for one guy regardless of who it is. But if we had Bell some posters here would want to give him whatever he wanted instead of understanding the situation and finding an alternative player.

The Observer is saying they can't verify that Tepper is interested because they haven't been able to get a comment from him.

My understanding is he'd be under a confidentiality agreement but okay.

The NFL Network, has him as not only interested but the front runner, so I guess we'll see.

The observer is basically neutered in this situation. The deal is being shopped out of NY and is in a full NDA situation do leaks won’t be in the QC they will be national. Once players become public and begin the diligence period at the facility and around town then the observer can pick up its scraps.

They have a decent article on it today though (posted a little earlier).

Sounds like the Fertittas are dropping out.

I’ll check it out. They had been last to report for a while. I’m glad they got into gear. This is a big topic that fans  are thirsty for. They need to go outside their usual beat to get the scoop.

It's actually now in two threads.  I posted it under "Latest Info" and LadyPanther posted it under the Bidding War headline :)
