Would someone be willing to take on Batum's contract in we sent our first rounder with him?

I would hate to lose our first rounder but I am looking at this like addition by subtraction. This team looked better without Batum early in the season and when he came back from injury something changed and the team just couldn't fix what ever was wrong. Lamb needs to be starting and Monk should have been getting 6th man minutes all season. The cap space freed up would be huge.

I would do a deal like this in a heartbeat but I don't even think 2 firsts would be enough to get out from under his contract. I wish we could still amnesty a player.

I have no idea.  Didn't realize how bad the contract was until this week.  In the NBA can you not just cut a player or you still have to pay them?

NBA contracts are fully guaranteed so if you cut a player, you still have to pay them and the contract counts against the salary cap.

Can't give up a Lottery pick just to get rid of a bad contract man. You have to put Kemba with him, simple as that.

I think the way Lamb played this year - and the sweetheart deal he is on - we could package him to get rid of Batum's terrible contract..
OR we could send Monk and Batum - but I don't want to get rid of him at all..
MAYBE some team would take Bacon and Batum - but I doubt it.

Kemba/Batum - Monk/Batum - Lamb/Batum - 1st Rd pick/Batum

^^^those are your realistic options.. maybe Mitch Kupchak can pull off some magic..?

Kemba/Batum seems like the only option at this point. Especially if we want anything of significance in return. If they don't care, I would try to trade Batum and our second rounder or something for a second rounder. His contract is so bad, I would take a Gatorade for him.

a second won't cut it - maybe if we took a horrible contract back - like Joakim Noah

Kemba would cut it. He's an All-Star. No way are we sending our first round pick to get rid of his contract. Not when we are about to start REALLY sucking.

The way his team is constructed losing Batum and Kemba doesn’t help us. We would still suck for another 2 to 3 years so you might as well just wait out Batums contract and tank for 2 straight years.

We should have just sat him this year with his elbow injury and try to trade him before the draft / offseason. Now any trade value he had is gone.

If I am the GM and someone wants our pick ( looking like it will be 8-12) The only way I  trading it is if they take Batum. The extra cap space would be enough to extend Kemba and bring in a decent back up point guard for the first time in 3 years.

I still can’t believe Cho gave Nic the max signing MKG, Marvin, and Cody to big deals. What ever we need to do to get rid of Batum without dealing Kemba needs to be done.

    • To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.  https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.  This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.  I am pasting that part: As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.” ——— That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.   Anyway the dream is not dead. .
    • The Seahawks traded for wide receiver/returner Rashid Shaheed at the trade deadline. He proved to be a key acquisition. Shaheed returned a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns in the regular season and had a 95-yard kickoff return in the postseason. Shaheed, though, is scheduled for free agency. So, the 12 games he played, including the postseason, might be the extent of his time in Seattle. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Shaheed and the Seahawks are not close to an extension, and the expectation is that the two-time Pro Bowler will hit free agency. Shaheed has 153 receptions for 2,243 yards and 12 touchdowns in his four-year career to go along with three punt return touchdowns and a kickoff return touchdown. He ranks 13th on PFT’s top-100 free agents. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/report-rashid-shaheed-appears-headed-to-free-agency
