Yep.  I like what he's done so far but we'll have to see.  He is a bit of a no filter kind of guy.  Kind of like what I imagine myself being if I were a GM, haha.

Yeah. Word is that's what got him fired here.

Presided over the most successful period - and single best season - In our team's history, but he hurt people's feelings.

Now we've got Tepper.

He hasn't really hurt feelings yet other than firing people that needed to be fired pretty quickly.  I mean moreso that he sounds like your grandfather after a few whiskeys sometimes.  It's funny, but could get old if the team struggles.

Well to be fair, any personality is going to get old if somebody's not good at their job. Gettleman's personality got him fired even though he was successful. Though as more than one source has testified, Richardson wasn't exactly hitting on all cylinders at that point.

That's one reason why I'm happy we have a new owner. Wouldn't have wanted it to come about the way that it did, but obviously that's something we can't control.

Something tells me Tepper is not necessarily all that concerned about whether somebody who's doing a subpar job gets their feelings hurt.

Did Richardson make his money or inherit it?  I feel like being a self made man makes you go about things a bit differently.

Made it. But as he aged, I think he lost a lot of his "filters".

If you haven't read about any of the allegations, don't. Save yourself the gross out.

I have gone quite a few mergers, reorg's, and other types of change of ownership/senior management.  While the NFL may be higher profile, the circumstances and actions will likely be similar.  One thing I have learned is that culture is talked about a lot, but is in reality, rarely much of an issue.  If Tepper is a good manager, those that are good at their job, and can adjust to his management style, will stay.  Those that aren't, or can't, will not.

Yeah been through a few myself. Like you said those that where skating by on their jobs should be the ones to be worried. But you have to not to become cannon fodder too.

Best to keep your head down and do your job. Sucking up to the new boss isn't a good idea either. If you do your job and do it right you won't have a issue.

Will be until after the season ends before we see real changes.  But Tepper should have a advisor on the property the first day.

The one issue there though: As has been mentioned before, there are people in that building doing jobs they're not qualified to do because Jerry Richardson promoted them for the wrong reason.

Doesn't sound like kissing up to the boss is gonna keep people employed anymore.

That is why I mentioned being good at their jobs.  And fwiw, I have yet to work at a company or org that doesn't see  some people promoted for azz kissing.

He caught a TD pass from Johnny Unitas in the 1959 NFL Championship game.  Richardson took his bonus from that game and with his friend Charlie Bradshaw opened the first franchised Hardee's restaurant in Spartanburg, SC. That venture led to Spartan Food Systems.  From hamburgers to achieving his dream of bringing a NFL team to the Carolinas.

Wow, that's an interesting story.

A couple of additional notes from Breer (link)

Quote

9. Panthers owner-to-be David Tepper looked more than comfortable with his surroundings this week. It’s worth mentioning again that Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and, of course, Rooney were big advocates of his over the last couple months.

10. Speaking of the process, it’s interesting to see the NFL doing a deal to have Fanatics manufacture uniforms for the next decade (they’ll still carry the Nike swoosh on them). Fanatics’ executive chairman is Michael Rubin, the Philadelphia 76ers co-owner who’s also close with Kraft and led a bidding group for the Panthers. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear about him trying to get a team again down the line.
