Smith and Funchess aren't necessarily the best route runners, but each one can get open enough to at least extend drives with regularity.

I guess that's the reason that Cam had to check down to CMC constantly yesterday, because Smith and Funch "can get open enough to at least extend drives with regularity".

CMC receptions and yac were "extending drives" yesterday.

Cam running the ball was "extending drives" yesterday.

Jarius Wright (except for his very first opportunity) was "extending drives" yesterday.

If what you saw was Smith and Funchess doing that then I have to question your eyesight.

Nothing wrong with my eyesight, but your selective blindness fits your narrow narrative.

7 of 9 for 77 with two drops, or it would have been more.

3 of 7 for 33 with a drop.

Say what you want about Smith (though 7 targets is 7 targets), but Funchess caught seven passes.

Like I said, they got open, but dropped key passes (and that includes Wright).

The "problem" with the receiving corps the first couple of games, especially yesterday, was drops, and the fact that we haven't had anyone to command double-teams to take some pressure off, and that's where hopefully Moore and Samuel will come into play.

We also need to take more shots down field, but will the O-line hold enough to give us that option? They should be able to in my opinion.

The fact is is that if Funchess has 14 more games like yesterday, he will be a 1000 yard receiver. But that doesn't mean as much if you're making key drops and not scoring. I know that he can score. We just have to put him in situations to score. He has been fairly adept in the red zone.  We also need to hit him on more slants in general, and more out-routes down in scoring territory.
