NCFans Time to blow this up Early Mock

Cut:

Time to cut weight and old age

Captain- has done nothing since being here

Torrey Smith

Matt Kalil (June 1)

Poe

Searcy

Butler

Resign:

Shaq- I know this is Very controversial.  But I will repeat.  He is good in TDs role.  When TD has been out, that has been when he has began to show flashes.  Look at the Dallas tape where he feasted.  With TD gone he can finally stick there.  With him Not blowing up yet, we can extend for Cheap.  Extending him also can open up some cap for next year instead of paying him that 1 year 9mil 5th year option.  He will be a solid starter that will ve locked up.  You cant have superstars at every position.  So if you can lock a solid starter for cheap Do It.

Daryl Williams- he is going to be cheap now.  He had ..... .ONE stud season on the Right side.  In addition, he is coming off a knee injury.  He wont be that much, possibly around the 9.5-10 per year range.

Eric Reid- look the guy isnt perfect but is Solid.  He still isnt popular by the league.  So again, wont break the bank.

Free Agency:

Josh Norman: Redskins need cap space and will cut Norman.  He is not going to cost much.  He is older now, also struggling here lately.  He is a good fit for our system.  Loves Carolina, Loves Rivera, and still friends with guys like Cam.  Expect a wash with his contract for what Captain's making

Tyrann Mathieu- he isnt the same Honey Badger from Arizona who was a DPOY candidate, but is still Solid.  College Teammate of Reid.  Reid and Jackson gives him that LSU, DBU love to sway him to come.  He currently is on a 1 year 7 mil.  2-3 for 8.5 easily could lock him down.

Jadeveon Clowney- sounds far fetched but is possible.  I ran the above signings and cuts with Clowney signing a 5 year 17.5 per year deal ajd we still had roughly 20+ mil to spend.  Everyone saw Kalil Macks deal and immediately thought that no way we have a shot.  First off trimming the fat with cutting ties with some older guys, bust guys, etc.  Gets us cap to maneuver with.   Also Clowney, while good, isnt close to Mack.   17.5-18 should lock him down.  That edge rusher piece is something we've missed.  and with Rivera's D (yes I'm predicting he is retained), that relies on the front 7.  Having a Clowney, and if we can get KK going again (a little edge pressure will help) will get this defense rolling again.

Draft:

1st: Rashan Gary- ill admit, I have not been a fan and convinced that he is strictly a 3-4DE and more a rush DT.  Under more evaluation, I think he is a stud even on the edge.  Reminds me of Hardy athletically or Calias Campbell.  I also didn't think he'd make it far enough to us.  But not drafting higher, he will land.  Plan B will be Montez Sweat.  Gary immediately forms a strong Edge duo with Clowney on a struggling DL.

2nd: Dexter Lawerence- before you call me crazy, he wont be there , etc etc etc.  His stock has fallen some, partially because he hasnt quite lived up to his hype and ability this year.  Also a VERY VERY VERY strong DL class that includes the 2 Bama boys who will go in the first, Oliver,  and Brown (from Auburn) who is a Monster and freak who could be a top 15 guy.  Plus Tillery who is a freak, and people up in South Bend say is the best DL to come out of there in a long long time and cant be stopped.  Plus a kid from Ohio State who some mocks have a mid first.  Oh and Lawrence teammate Wilkins.

Over half of the mocks currently have Lawerence falling out if the first.  Now he will probably go at the top of the 2nd.  Sooooo, we strike a trade.  We trade Addison and a 2020 4th to move up to grab Lawerence.   Look I like Addison and he has been the most consistent DE here the last 2-3 seasons.  But he is avg, crunching #s.  Need to open cap, move up in the draft, he is expendable.  Poe just hasnt worked out.  Star has been missed.  Poe just seems like he's good at the NoseTackle role.  Lawerence can be paired with KK like Star.

3rd:

2 scenario's

If Olsen retires- we package both 3rds and go after Kaden Smith.

If not-

Go after Interior OL

Lindstrom from BC is a kid I like here or one of the 2 Wisconsin kids

4th: Tyree Jackson- Big, Athletic, with a cannon.  Sounds like Cam right coming into the league right? He is raw, but a good prospect to start grooming as a backup.  And the perfect guy to sit and watch under Cam

Nice effort although I think you are being very optimistic with getting those particular free agents under contract, and on getting those particular players where we will be drafting.  Still, good write up.

I think its a real possibility.  Only one maybe couod question would be Clowney

Honey Badger is on a 1 year 7 mil prove it year.  A 2-3 year 8.5 or so deal he'll take in a heartbeat.  Especially considering a strong Saftey FA class this is.  Some couod argue 5 safeties in this class are better than him

Some of the Redskins fans I work with seem Norman is as good as gone.  Said outside the panthers game he has been garbage.  They are money strapped. With several key FA that need to be signed plus uncertainty of Alex Smith's future.  He isnt  a top 5 CB anymore.  He fits our system and loves it here.  If you think anyone is going to pay him 10mil a year if hes cut, you must think that team must be lining up to throw a big contract at Funchess as well.

Reid- again, league still isnt a fan.  Neither are the owners.  We wont get him vet min again.  But again he isnt going to cost much

Williams has 1 year as a starter and that was on the right side.  And he is coming off a knee injury which isnt the best for  big guys.

Clowney isnt a DPOY guy like Mack, Von Miller, Donald, etc.  So he isnt going to get that 21+ a year.  18 shouldnt be out of the question he couod easily be signed.  Again.....it is fanspeak.....but most of their sims ive noticed have him going right around 5 year 17.5 and havnt seen him gone for over 19 once.

Shaq- something will be done.  With amount of holes that need to be filled.  And our current cap protections.  I cant see our GM justifying paying him 9 mil for this upcoming season.  Going ahead and extend him may be the best option.  With cutting him, you now have another hole.  Extending him, you still have a quality starter while opening up some cap space

I like these choices, but I'd like to finally draft a stud free safety. We haven't invested a high round pick in a free safety since Deon Grant. I like Taylor Rapp, and we could probably get him in the third round.

Thatd be nice

My reason I didnt

Alot of our problems stemmed around the trenches.  Couldnt protect Cam, less holes for CMC

D couldnt get to the QB and had reouble stopping the run.

This is the most talented DL class to come out in a long long time.  And a handful of talented DEs in the first that will fot our scheme.  On top, the only 2 DEs under contract next year are

Addison and Haynes.  Haynes hardly ever got activated this year due to his size, where he got pushed around easily.

At the same time this years Safety FA class is deeper this year than normal.  In addition, a stud FA safety will be cheaper than DE or OL.

    • Yea when teams see a gun charge they rightly pause but this seems like a big misunderstanding.
    • Sorry man you lost me at "Teppers have evolved as owners". Limped into playoffs at 8-9 not even above .500 Tepper is trash as an owner bro and that's not even a discussion at this point. 37-83 w/l ratio. Nuff said.... Morgan tho, he's cooking and it ain't cuz of Teppers leadership
    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
