How much longer is our Super Bowl window?

I think Gettlemen had it right.  We should not overpay to keep older players happy.  The Pats don't do that and they are the model for how to win in the modern league.  He should not have been let go.

With that said Hurney has not been awful this time around.  The real issue is Cam's health.  If his shoulder had not given out I feel sure we would have made the playoffs this year.  The other issue is losing our defensive coordinator two years in a row.  That had a negative impact on the defense, especially the secondary.

Gettleman didn't do much. Ask yourself this - who did Gettleman draft or sign that has a argument to be in Carolina's ring of honor?

Spoiler: none. Maybe Cmc if he continues playing well.

He benefted from a roster filled with franchise cornerstones. I do applaud him for filling in the leaks

You're obsessed.

Find something new to talk about, kid.

Get out of here.

Like I said before kid, I get it. Dave Gettleman cut your favorite player and hurt your feelings. We all get it. Heck, you've been beating anybody that would listen over the head with it ever since it happened.

It was five years ago. Thats an awfully long time to cry over a football player.

It's unhealthy. Let it go.

Apart from drafting CMC and getting rid of some players that pretty much any GM would have gotten rid of. What has he done? His drafting was pretty meh apart from some solid picks like Williams, Turner and Bradberry

His tenure here was the most successful period in Panthers history, including the 2015 Super Bowl.

Firing him was stupid. Replacing him with Marty Hurney was even stupider.  Unfortunately, we're stuck with Hurney for the moment, but here's hoping that's temporary.

Fair it was a sucessful tenure. But if we're being real its more because of guys already on the roster when he got here. (TD, Cam, Luke, Jno, R.Kalil)

So why didn't those guys have any winning seasons before he got here?

A GM has to build a whole roster, not a partial one. it doesn't matter if you have five or six great players on your team if the overall product isn't good enough to win games.

Yep.

He did do good of signing cheap outcasts that fit our system.

Because Hurney did not plug the holes. Gettleman did in 2013 and 2015.

Hurney selected the cornerstones, DG fixed the leaks.

Hurney left more leaks than he did cornerstones, and overpaid those leaks to the point that we were 14 million over the cap.

Happily, Gettleman managed to overcome Hurney's incompetence and build a team that put us in the Super Bowl after the best season in Panthers history.

And it all started with the brilliant move of cutting Steve Smith :)

Another lie. The leaks were Safety (Coleman 2015, Mitchell 2013), WR2/3 (Ginn), CB2 (committee) and DT (Short and Star), Norwell. We were solid everywhere else.

Olsen, Stewart, Williams, Kalil, CJ, Hardy, Norman, Smith, Tolbert, Gross, Kuechly, Davis, Cam were our cornerstones. We had more cornerstones than leaks, loser.

Cutting Steve Smith was not the catalyst for our super bowl season.

We did go 12-4 the last time Smith was in the team. He wasn't a hinderance. We built on that 2013 season.

Nah. Smith was obviously the most important move. Heck, the Ravens even tanked after he signed there while we only got better.

Foh they were close to reaching the AFC Championship game in 2014. Smith missed half the season in 2015 after an impressive start. Returned in 2016 and they improved to 9-7 (just missed the playoffs).

Stop quoting me dude. You're a liar.

    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
    • You do know the biggest military base in the US is located just an hour from Raleigh in Fort Bragg right? Military families are family oriented. A hour drive to games is nothing compared to traveling 3 hours to Charlotte.   Cmon man there is nothing happening in Western Carolina other than Charlotte. I only go west for outdoor activities and some nature/mountain views.
    • Okay, who is coming. And how hard is it going to be to get tickets? I’m currently living in Germany a couple hours north of Munich. Happy to help facilitate a cheaper experience for help getting tickets lol.
