One Realistic Trade that would put a cherry on top

I'm not even worried about the safety situation. The pass rush will help Gaulden immensely.

He's surrounded by immense talent and leadership. He's talented and a natural leader.

If your position is that we shouldn’t try to upgrade our roster or have high level competition for starting positions.

When have I ever stated that?

I haven't. And you won't, because I know competition is great. It makes everyone better.

This isn't about my opinion.

This about the opinion that our staff like what we have on roster better than anybody else that if available.

I understand that a lot of the fans don't agree with that, but this isn't madden.

I do like Gaulden. Yes, he isn't proven.  There is a lot to like about him. I am excited to see him in this defense.

we won't be making any trades when the staff likes the talent we have, and they know we can win with it.

With everyone's love and gushing for the offseason moves so far, which I am one of them and truly believe this is the best offseason acquisitions we have had in forever followed by a great draft,  like most I still have some concern with the back end of our defense.  I can't be sold on Gaulden because of no real film on him playing at this level.  I do believe he has the talent and intangibles to contribute.  Everyone is barking out sign Eric Berry or Tre Boston, which at this time I am more of a Boston signing than Berry.  But I do believe we are 1 above average safety opposite of Eric Reid from being one of if not the most feared defenses.

So my question is this: Who would you trade for to place that cherry on top of this great offseason? And what would you give?

Here's mine:

Currently as of day Over the Cap has us at $11.143 million left in cap space.  3 names that come to mind aren't big ones but have been impactful thus far in their careers that currently trust more than say Gaulden.

Safety Karl Joseph: was the 14th pick in 2016 NFL trade 1st round.  Has appeared in 32 games over 3 years in the league with 48 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 INT.  He is currently buried on the Raiders depth chart after they drafted Johnathan Adram in the 1st this year.  I really liked this kid coming out of WVU 3 years ago and I think he was potentially drafted higher than most expected.

Safety Josh Jones: was drafted 61st in round 2 by the Packers.  In 3 years he has played in 21 games registering 55 tackles and 1 sack.  He's 24 and I was high on this guy because of his athleticism he displayed a the combine. 6'1 220 ran a 4.41, 20 reps, and 37.5" vert.  Currently listed as starter on OurLads.com depth chart for Packers but Packers just drafted Safety Darnell Savage with the 1st round pick.

Safety Tavon Wilson: 8 year vet signed with Detroit in March. Has 259 career tackles, 8 INT, and 4 sacks.   Buried on depth chart.

I typically don't like trading especially depth but we now have so much depth at DL and OL now that most wont make the team anyways.  Potentially using Veron Butler and maybe a late pick for either of these 3 guys I think would help us seal in the back end of our defense.

Options?  Answer to your questions yes I'm bored at work and missing football.

Any one of those three may be available before the start of the season for less cost and effort. Something tells me that patience will pay off here.

Yeah, I think we just need to let it play out and see what we have. It would be nice for Gaulden to just simply be an average FS. If that happens, we don't gave to do anything.

    • In your opinion. What do you think Moton's true value in contract, dollars and guarantees? If we had not extended him, what is your plan for RT in 27 and 28? How important are good offensive linemen for our current offense? How much value do you put on protecting Bryce at this stage of his career? How difficult in general do you think finding above average tackles in the NFL is?
    • The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Right tackle Kaleb Mcgary (who is the blindside protector for Penix since he is left-handed) is going to miss significant time, and it's looking more like it may be all season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-expect-kaleb-mcgary-to-miss-significant-time https://x.com/BKsquared7/status/1959285822236107013. Also, the top backup and swing tackle, Storm Norton (cool name BTW) is having ankle surgery and may miss half the season. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/falcons-ot-storm-norton-out-6-8-weeks-after-ankle-surgery I don't root for injuries, but its also hard to be too sympathetic given how badly injuries have hit us in recent years. We definitely need to get that W in week 3 for our home opener at BOA. Despite our collective frustration at not being able to attend TC and then having boring preseason games, ultimately the most important objective of the preseason is to enter Week1 healthy, and we have at least done that. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.
    • That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
