Prerequisites to Assistant GM interviews

This Tepper/Hurney thing is seriously confusing to me. There's no doubt Tepper is a brilliant man. When brilliant people see you as brilliant, well yeah. Everyone knows Tepper loves analytics.

How in the HELL is he so endeared to Marty Hurney? Listen, I have no doubt that Hurney is a great guy. I honestly don't doubt that he works his ass off TRYING to do a great job. The problem is that it just hasn't translated to anything more than just sporadic, almost random success on the football field. How can someone as brilliant and analytical as Tepper not see that? Just look at Hurney's overall draft record. He has entire draft classes that are near total washes. Just look at his trade ups on draft day. Nearly a universal disaster. Just look at his big ticket free agent signings. Yowzers. Just look at some of the extensions and restructures he's signed. Fug... I don't doubt that there are some things Hurney does well, but overseeing a franchise as the GM isn't one of them.

I honestly don't blame Hurney. Like I said, I don't doubt that he works his ass off trying to do a great job. When someone is put into a position and works their ass off and still fails, it's not their fault. It's the fault of the person who put them in that position. The same thing is true for guys like Amini Silatolu, Armanti Edwards, Jimmy Clausen, Everette Brown, etc. Never heard anything about those guys that would lead me to believe they weren't working their asses off and doing everything the coaches were asking them to do, they just weren't good enough. Can't blame them for that.

All valid, and yeah it's a mystery.

Richardson valued loyalty over performance and had no clue how to build a winning program. That's not hard to figure out.

What Tepper sees in him, though...

You suggested we weren't getting the guy because Rhule didn't want him, when in fact the Eagles were the ones who nixed the interview.

I was asking how exactly you thought those two things could be reconciled (which of course, they couldn't, so basically...)

There you go, making up 'facts.' The only thing the public knows for sure is that the Eagles declined the interview, and that they are able to do so because the Panthers requested the interview for a position that is not a vertical move. It's currently unclear as to why the Panthers wouldn't just offer him the vertical move. Perhaps they don't think he's qualified for that position. Perhaps they really think Hurney is the answer at GM. Perhaps Tepper, Hurney and Rhule want to find a replacement for Hurney that's willing to be more collaborative than what this Eagles personnel guy is willing to be. We don't know. It's all conjecture. It's supposed to be fun.

And that's not at all how you responded to my original post. You tried to put words in my mouth and then told me I looked silly for thinking something that you wholly came up with in your own head.

You wanted to shift blame off of Marty. We get it.

You chose to do so by suggesting Matt Rhule had something to do with it. That's where you went wrong. And now you're spinning wildly rather than just accept that.

As mentioned previously, our situation isn't really Marty's fault. It's David Tepper's fault for keeping Marty.

So technically, correct idea, wrong target.

Wrong again, kid. I’m all for replacing Hurney. It’s just silly to fault Tepper for keeping Hurney to the detriment of HIS team, despite us having no real insight into what’s going on behind closed doors. I shared a theory with no basis in any inside information, same as you. Apparently my opinion bent you out of shape and you decided to try and put words in my mouth. It was a cheap move. I would say it’s beneath you, but well, it’s kind of your signature move. As predictable as a  or a condescending “kid” when things don’t go your way.

I don't get bent out of shape by people suggesting dumb ideas on message boards.

Nah.

I get that you want to believe you're important enough to affect my real world mood. You're not. You're just random internet guy, and it's all you'll likely ever be.

The people who affect my emotions are people I have actual connections with. Someone who disagrees with me in a football argument on a message board doesn't qualify.

The fact that you think you have an effect on my emotions though tells me I probably have an effect on yours.

Also, the fact that you're shifting to talk about me instead of still trying to spin your take tells me you know that's a lost cause.

And again, I'm more interested in discussing the topic than talking about me, so unless you've got something relevant to say on that...

Oh your uninformed know-it-all posts bug the poo out of me, but I know I’m not alone, and I’m making the choice to hang around and argue. We’re all on these boards because we have strong points of view and enjoy arguing. This is no place for actual debate because we(especially you)deal mostly in rumors from professional sports gossips.

Your incessant posting on this board alone tells me you don’t have many actual human connections. There’s not enough time in the day what with posting three threads about the same subject 20 times per day. So it’s strange that you’d choose that as some sort of passive aggressive jab at me.

The fact that you’ve gotten meaner and more condescending with each response, when all I’ve done is dispute you putting words in my mouth, betrays that you’re lying about it not affecting your emotions. Seek help.

Oh my gawd stahp you two. So many words without even saying anything.

I basically told him with my last post I only wanted to talk about the topic. He responded by talking about me more. Still trying to rile me up I guess (he can't).

But yeah, it's boring, and irrelevant. We could actually be talking about...you know, football. Like...Panthers football.

Mr. Scot misquoted me, mis-characterized my posts and when I called him out on it, he tried to wiggle free, dropping passive aggressive insults along the way.

If it was really boring and irrelevant, he’d have copped to it, apologized for the misunderstanding and stopped responding several pages ago.

Wonder if the other owners are pissed at Tepper for Rhule's big contract and are denying out of spite.

Maybe Tepper wants Hurney around to be a puppet ,kind of like Garrett was for Jerry. Tepper pulls the strings and looks "hands off" while Hurney catches fire...a lot of things might be going on we dont even know behind the scenes..
