Q&A for Athletic subscribers

Quick tidbit from one of Joe's recent articles:

Person asked six NFL personnel types whether they believe Joe Brady is ready for a head coaching job. Four said not yet, but two said he could be and most acknowledged that he'll get interviews regardless.

This is why I'm pessimistic about keeping him. Even if he truly isn't ready yet, all it takes is for one team to believe that he is.

Possibly not coincidentally, another article which mentions Brady also talks about how Falcon fans lament the loss of Kyle Shanahan.

I can see Joe being scooped if he shows two consecutive seasons of offensive success. That's a big reason why I believe the team was so focused on getting the offense rdy now and taking their time to build the defense. Phil Snow isn't going anywhere.

I've spent a little time looking at possible replacements if Brady does get taken.

Nobody on the current staff really strikes me as up to the task, so I think we'll wind up looking outside. Guys who have previously worked for Sean Payton or Andy Reid could be of interest.

Fired head coaches sometimes get a look as well. It's not a bad way to go because you know they were good enough to get head coaching consideration based on prior performance but it can also be less likely that they'll get another such job again, so there's less risk of losing them.

I don't want Adam Gase, though.

A few other tidbits:

- Person says that if the Panthers did sign Tommy Stevens he would indeed be used in a similar manner to how the Saints use Taysom Hill; Also mentions that some people actually credit Joe Brady with the idea of using Hill the way they do

- Said that both Rhule and Brady love Bridgewater; indicated that the team thinks more highly of him than some of the fans do; Person does acknowledge that they could draft a quarterback next year but isn't certain they will; Does not believe they will trade up for one.

- Believes that Curtis Samuel will be easier to re-sign than Taylor Moton, but does say that bringing Moton back will be a priority given the line problems and the "big question marks at left tackle" (don't know if that means they'll look at Taylor there; tried to get clarification but didn't)

- Mentioned QB Coach Jake Peetz as a possible Brady replacement because Rhule really likes him

- Sees a possible scenario where the Panthers re-sign Curtis Samuel and Robby Anderson while letting DJ Moore walk (wow) stated that the Panthers view Robby Anderson, and not DJ Moore as their "number one receiver"

- Says that the staff has "little faith" in Greg Little and called it "an indictment" of Hurney since he traded up for him; Also added that if Dennis Daley hadn't been injured, there likely wouldn't have been a left tackle rotation

- Regarding Marty, said there's a couple of ways he could see them going, including a short extension (ugh) but that would be for the purpose of "grooming someone on staff" or "finding someone they want" (with Pat Stewart mentioned as a possiblity)

- Doesn't believe David Tepper will offer Joe Brady a head coach type salary to keep him; Has also said elsewhere that Rhule doesn't want to impede his assistants from career progression

- Indicated the Panthers like Donte Jackson but are also aware and conscious of his issues and limitations

- As a side note to another answer, confirmed that David Tepper "suggested" the 3-4 switch to Ron Rivera; Doesn't believe that Tepper is a Jerry Jones type though, and said Matt Rhule is "his guy"

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
