Great episode of this podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tom-dundon-carolina-hurricanes-owner/id1292603914?i=1000507668574

The higlights:

  • Has not spent as much time in Raleigh as he used to when he first bought the team, trusts the front office to do their jobs
  • Initially was with the team a ton to shake up the culture on the hockey and business side
  • Implies that hiring Rod was one of his best decisions
  • Really wanted to improve the facilities - especially the locker room and practice facility (new one just opened up in Morrisville)
  • had STRONG praise for assistant GM Eric Tulksy, one of the better analytics minds in hockey
  • He would be "crushed" if Andrei Svechnikov signed elsewhere
  • GM Don Waddell is working on extensions right now

Lots of other good bits, but that was the key stuff

  • Thank Jebus 🤩🥳👍🍆
  • Initially was with the team a ton to shake up the culture on the hockey and business side
  • Shaking out a few dollars by trading one of the best AHL affilliates and running off 2 broadcasting legends. 🖕🤢🤮
  • Implies that hiring Rod was one of his best decisions
  • Can't argue here. 🍻
  • Really wanted to improve the facilities - especially the locker room and practice facility (new one just opened up in Morrisville)
  • I'm pretty sure the practice facility has been in the works since like 2009. Also, picking another fight with Raleigh & NCSU over one of the best arenas in the league, that you pay dick for, seems dumb. 👀
  • had STRONG praise for assistant GM Eric Tulksy, one of the better analytics minds in hockey
  • 🤞
  • He would be "crushed" if Andrei Svechnikov signed elsewhere
  • You're the one holding the purse strings, asshole. But, seriously, don't fug this up.
  • GM Don Waddell is working on extensions right now
  • 🤩🤑🤩

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
