My wife + Twilight = Creepy?

I saw the movie. I didn't really know what i was getting into, someone compared it to Buffy the Vampire slayer (the show). It was NOTHING like buffy. Terrible movie. Too many awkward moments, boring, slow and the female character is so frakin weak.

I read a bit of my friends book just to see what the hype was all about. they are written very poorly. I just don't get it. But my girlfriends love it, the way they talk about makes me think its girl porn, totally makes them horny for edward.

Generally the rule is that story trumps writing if the story is good enough. Now, I'm not saying the story is "good", per se, in twilight, but it does appeal to a decently large portion of the populace, probably the same people who are big into romances. In fact, Twilight basically is a romance with werewolves and sparkling vampires thrown in, so for romance fans it's a nice twist on a sort of worn-out trope.

The reverse is opposite too: sometimes good writing trumps a lack of story...although this is much harder to do and many writers who want to think they are geniuses stick in a bunch of purple fluff and are so in love with what they're writing, even though it sucks. But EVERY once in a while a writer comes along whose writing is so good that you don't even really need a story...Hemingway and Faulkner were two, and there's this guy James Boice (more contemporary) who has the ability to do the same thing...

But yeah, to get back to the point, I think that's Twilight's draw: its story trumps the writing deficiencies.

My girlfriend is not into Twilight at all :D

She has, however, learned to appreciate the fun of watching a scary movie from the safety of my arms.

There are, admittedly, a few I think might be a bit too intense for her. Haven't shown her "The Ring", "The Grudge", "Thirty Days of Night" or "Saw" yet, and if I go to see "Paranormal Activity" it'll probably be by myself.

She has enjoyed, to this point, "Frailty", "Quarantine", "The Reaping" and a lesser known movie called "Farmhouse" (which had a particularly unpleasant scene involving a cheese grater).

Yeah, I did. My ex-wife was so freaked out by it she was literally shaking by the end.

She also wanted to leave halfway through "Jeepers Creepers" but when they showed the rubber-masked bat-thing she wasn't scared anymore. The first 45 minutes of that movie could have been some of the scariest cinema ever, but they completely ruined it.
