Looking back a few seasons ago, the 2005 Panthers faced a similar situation that they're in now. After coming off a heartbreaking loss in Week 16 to a strong Cowboys team (a game in which the Panthers lead most of the way through and lost on a couple of questionable calls), the Panthers were staring down missing out on the post season all together. They were scheduled to play a divisional rival, in their stadium, against a team that had nothing to play for other than spoiler. The Panthers came in and won 44-11, largest margin of victory all-time for the team. Fear not fans, this team will come to play Sunday.

We beat the cheifs 34-0 this season.

That was a great game though. Foster went off.

I was about to mention the same thing.

Normally I don't give much credence to what happened in previous years, but being that we've still got the same coach, quarterback, star wide receiver(s) and many others from the 2003 and 2005 season, I would definitely say there is some semblance of those teams in the current one.

We shore up our secondary and I think we're still in great position to move deep in the playoffs.

....the Jekyll/Hyde syndrome, we never know whos going to show up. hope they crush NO but it wouldnt suprise me if they laid an egg. the only comforting fact is we have a ticket and we have a seat on the boat...

Jesus, the team didn't play that bad. The defense played bad in the second half, sorry that some of you idiots assum we can just execute our will on every team in the NFL. IT DOSENT HAPPEN.

I love how these guys blow up because we fans have doubts about our team...especially after a disappointing loss. It's a discussion forum, it's kinda the point jack**s.

I totally agree that we could come out flat, although I was worried the first time against the saints this year and we smoked them pretty good. I think in the end, with our game plan being running the ball, they just don't have the talent on defense to hold us. On the flip side, hopefully our defense will be as effective against Brees as it was earlier this year. One thing I don't see being mentioned is that they have had a running game bloom over the last few weeks with Pierre-Thomas, and if we have trouble stopping it, Brees could go off.

You're right, but at the time it was the largest margin of victory. 33 vs 34 points

I think which team will show up will solely depend on how serious Fox takes this game. If he feels like this a must-win game that we'll need to help build up momentum and grab the South title, then we will win. If he feels that we're in a good place and we've already got a playoff spot locked up and we should just go out there and have fun, then we're in trouble.

Me too, it's incredibly rare that we smoke a division rival twice in one year, if ever.

It was this game Smitty got ejected right? I know it was a game on Xmas Eve he got ejected against the cowgirls.

Allowing 300 yards rushing doesn't happen that often in the NFL. It was a terrible performance.

With our DT situation right now, there is definitely reason to be concerned about this game. The only hope I have is that the Saints will be so focused on getting Brees the record, they will not attack us with the run. Pierre Thomas would obliterate us if Kemo and/or Lewis is out.

I remember that game well, because in my time watching the Panthers, it was the most disappointing game I've ever watched. People talked about the refs, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was that we were destroyed by Jones running all over us.

      5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
