After seeing the Tigers get blasted, a note about Case Keenum...

......went down to Houston for the game this weekend. Our typically bad defense showed up again, we can't stop anyone. But that being said..

Really enjoyed watching Case throw the ball. May not have a gun so to say, but his arm is certainly strong enough, and the ball is RIGHT THERE in the exact spot it needs to be.

...Carolina needs to draft this guy, because he is in CUSA, he may not be perceived as a top pick (a la DWill, and we know how that turned out). I think he will be there.

Cannot pass this guy up, assuming he is available. Just a thought.

Also, Lefevre (not sure if I spelled that right) from Central Michigan looks awesome the few times I see him. Why is no one talking about him either?

They same reason no one looks at lefevre is the same reason no one looks at Keenum. You can have all the accuracy in the world but if you don't have adaquate throw power you're useless in the NFL because the throwing windows are so tight. Just having a marginally strong arm is good enough, but having a throwing arm as poor as LeFevre only spells mediocracy.

Sanchize didn't have "adequate throwing power" either and he got drafted by probably the one city in the league that power is a necessity. He's struggled a bit down the stretch but he has been pretty impressive most of the season.

Would I rather have a guy that can throw it 70 yards? Of course...but IMO that isn't the most important quality in a QB.

Right now I gotta say the guy I like the most is Mallett. He reminds me of Ben Roethlisberger with his size. He isn't quite as mobile but in only his first year as a starting QB he has thrown for over 3,000 yards and 28TDs. The stat that stands out to me the most is that he has only thrown 6 INTs while going up against the best defenses in the country. Think about this...He has thrown 4 more TDs and only 2 more INTs than Jimmy Clausen who is probably going to be the #1 overall pick. This kid is getting overlooked right now and could be a steal at the top of the 2nd round.

He's 6'7'' 240lbs, takes snaps from under center (as much as any college QBs are doing these days), and looks to be a pretty good decision-maker.

Agree on Keenum, disagree on LeFevre; he's got enough of an arm, and great accuracy and poise. I think he might be the best QB in the draft next year. If LeFevre is around in the second round, he's a steal.

Jim Mallett said his son had a great experience at Michigan. However, Rodriguez runs a spread offense that works well with mobile quarterbacks. Ryan Mallett is best suited for a pro-style offense.

Well.. just reading that, and knowing he got those stats interested me about this kid. the only problem? there is a 90% chance he wont be in this years draft huh?

mallet will be there with this being possibly the last year without a rookie payscale i think most will come out early with the chance of being a first rounder

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
