I'm Calling it Now: Trade for Dennis Dixon

You guys know that Jake Delhomme has HAD games where he was "throwing daggers".

I cant wait til we get a QB so everyone on here will stop shooting their collective wads when they see any high school, college, and NFL QB play well in one game , and think of some dumb ass way to bring them here.

I don't mind shooting my wad on this thread, I wanted us to draft Dixon when he came out b/c I KNEW he was going to be good. I also knew he could be a steal late in the draft b/c of the injury and other issues.

Like I said, watch the game... People were blowing their loads all offseason about Tyler Thigpen, but Dixon is better than him, he just hasn't played b/c he's on the Steelers. Just watch him, the guy has potential to be a franchise QB.

And BTW, dpantherman, keep watching...

Lets not get carried away yet and the game is far from over. That being said being able to plug him in versus the Ravens defense and have him play fairly well and not do anything stupid yet is positive. A lot of people feel Troy Smith the Ravens back up is capable of doing the same thing given the chance. There are quite a few qbs in the league that fit this style, T. Jackson, T. Smith, D. Dixon, V. Young, P. White, Nate Davis, and the list goes on. These styles of QB emerge after sitting and learning a few years and all generally get plugged into teams with strong running games and good defense. The panthers have both going for them so sure why not take the risk but do you think the current coaching staff could call a game to cater to this type of QB?

YUCK, lol... It depends, I think he's could be worth a 4th or 3rd rounder. Before you flame, just think, if you can get a reliable QB for 10+ years for a 3rd round pick, you made a good deal. Odds are, that's not going to happen from draft prospects... Dixon is worth it.

Ideally, I wouldn't want to give that up for him, but that maybe what it takes to get the Steelers to give him up with Batch aging and his contract expiring.

I see women at halftime during the harris teeter challenge I think can throw better than Jake. LOL

Wow. BJDJSer... At this point I, and many others here, WILL take ANY QB who plays well. Have you not been watching the games this year, and the playoffs last year? Stick a fork in your boy Jake, he's done. Might as well have served him up on a platter for thanksgiving.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
