Alternate History: 2008 NFL Draft

If I was going to redo the draft I would just draft the way I wanted to all along, Otah at 14 and Forte or Rice (yeah I called that) with our original second. Then we would have had a 1st last year and by consequence a 1st this year. I wanted Flacco but I also think the need for a Tackle was greater. I think they are giving up way to soon of Flacco he is young he'll bounce back.

If I was to redo this draft I would have done what I originally wanted. M. Johnson in the 2nd (or who knows brown might still have been there) and no way in hell do I draft Irvin when Sammie Lee Hill is still available. He has the potential to be one of the best 0 or 1 technique in the draft. He was even there when we got Goodson (thanks we need depth at DT/WR/QB/OL you draft the last position we need).

What about the Beason Draft, brilliant trade down there. We would've instead got Reggie Nelson(who is good at a position we need) but no Khalil if I remember correctly.

as for Draft in Question, I do question the Run First and bore the fans philosophy of Fox. Given the NFL, with its gunslingers and Rules that protect the Passing Game, has moved in the opposite direction it sure appears Fox/Hurney were blind to that and screwed us. to be this blind even after Delhomme's elbow injury is truly astounding.

Tom Brady wouldn't be the QB he is today had he been drafted by us. He would look very much like the 6th rounder he is. Just saying. We can't develop a QB for poo. And then there's no Stetson pitch man. Then where would the world be?

As far as Chris Johnson is concerned, he's a little too selfish for me. Great runner, yes. But you see how quick he was to drip Lendale White. Then there's his whole MVP campaign thing. Just don't like the guy.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
