What does Moore do that Jake doesn't?Besides win

remember when jake first got here in 2003 and the biggest compliment about him was that he just wins?

:(

Jake did more than "just win," he pulled wins out of insane losses... he made clutch throws... and probably most importantly he had some insane chemistry with Smitty... that's gone now... and I hope he is gone as our starter... but I loved the guy fora couple of those years, even if I think he almost landed me in the hospital with some of the up and down plays...

back to Moore...

NO won't be any easier than the last two opponents, and it'll be without Smitty... this is going to be a good game for us to gauge Moore's ability to command the offense... I'd say this is the perfect opportunity for Jarrett to step up and show he belongs in this league, but I think we all know how that'd turn out =\ So maybe Moore to Moore can become the mainstay of this weekend? Maybe Goodson can have a great game? Lots of potential options for people looking to make the team for next year...

Either way, a Smitty-less Panthers air attack is a lot less imposing... but if D-Will and Stew are both healthy, look out on the ground, haha.

The way the Panthers are built around running the ball and playing good defense, the Panthers do not need a top tier QB to be successful. Moore was 15-20 for 177 yards and one TD against the Giants. He was solid, but not spectacular. The one stat that defines him as the type of QB we need is ZERO turnovers.

We are a run-first and run-second team. We need a QB that makes a few plays in the passing game to keep defenses hontest....and does NOT turn the ball over and put the defense in bad situations.

This is EXACTLY what Jake once was.

No, actually he had 3 TDs against the Giants.

My bad....I mis-typed the TD number.

He made opportunities when they presented themselves. My point was that we do not need a QB that will put up 300-400 yards a game. We need one that is efficient and makes some plays....allowing the run game to pound teams into submission.

I figured such an obvious oversight was probably a typo. ;)

But you're absolutely right. We don't need a Payton Manning to be a good team. If Moore could start next year and play like he has this year then this team could go far. Just limit the TOs, take what the defense gives you, and let the RBs & OL carry the load.

Well a couple things I have noticed, Moore throws to multiple receivers and even backs and tight ends, not Smitty evey single time. I have seen Rosario, King, Stewart, Moose, Smith, hell- who else has he thrown the ball too. Simply put , he doen't have the tunnell vision Jake does.

Also, he takes the sack or throws the ball away instead of fumbling or throwing int's.

And most importantly, he wins, what is he overall? 5 and 2 in games he has started and that is coming in cold and not working the whole training camp and week in week out with the 1st team.

What say you?

Moore makes wiser decisions. I remember back in the '05 season how Jake stated "I like to take chances" & yes, Jake has won a lot of games via 4th quarter TDs but he was much younger & more athletic back then. He could complete those risky passes easily & he was only 28 during our SB season & only 30 during his pro bowl season. Jake's arm is probably worn out & done ever since the bye week from last year. Also, Moore is much quicker than Jake. Delhomme could hardly ever run or manuever around.

Just, er, a small correction... I think that having a 132.8 QB rating is pretty much spectacular, tbh... The most important stat he put up was 0 turnovers, but he played amazing... really, if these last two weeks are more the rule than the exception, this offense will be fine...

your point stands, though... a Panthers QB does not need to average 300 yards a game to get us wins... but they need to: 1) Keep drives going on third and longs, 2) make teams respect the deep passing game, 3) execute screens & play action passes, 4) Occasionally be able to put the team on their back and win the game for us... or at least be the focal point of the offense.

in any event, I just hope these last couple games from Moore set the tone for the NO game and for the rest of his career as a Panther...

    • I find it interesting that TMac was shown here practicing without gloves.  Is that a new approach to improving hands because the gloves are so sticky?   If you think about the draft and evaluated the talent at each position and rate them by round, you see what the Panthers did--get the best WR in the draft.  in round 2, you had WRs like Bech and Tre Harris going--meanwhile, the Panthers grabbed Scourton (late first round grade) and Princely (expected to be drafted in the middle of the second round).   Bech and Harris were projected to be third rounders.   If you evaluate the draft by your expectations of the performance of the talent, you are guessing and trying for clicks.  However, if you understand the depth of talent at each position and align that with needs,  the strategy becomes the issue--not a subjective guess.  Did the Panthers address WR and Edge wisely, considering the players likely to be available?  Yes.   Ask yourself this:  In the Panther system, is it possible that Scourton would be a better edge than Walker?  I think he is a better fit.  Princely?  Better fit.   Morgan had an excellent draft.  When you see Ransom play S, you will be convinced that it was a Home Run.  That pick was solid and he will be here for a long time.
    • Wasn't sure where to put this; can't start a new thread.  Anyone paying attention to the CWS?  Tarheels cruise in first two games, set up regional championship with fully rested bullpen and tons of momentum.   On the road to Omaha!
    • Or it could be because we are building a pretty good team that is going to compete.  But I expect us to win the division this year.
